All this means is that you should not expect it to be a lot different. It should have some bugs fixed, it should have some new function. But, I wouldn't expect anything new in the reading experience. And as Kobo uses the RMSDK for PDFs, it is very unlikely there are any changes in annotations. |

I already have the ids for both the Aura One and Aura Edition 2. The driver will be ready for these devices.

Kobo Aura One looks like a nice device from a mainstream e-reader maker to fill in the larger screen niche.
Sadly Onyx and Pocketbook just do not have the mainstream appeal. I have been happy with software on Kobo Mini and if Aura One performs similarly at 7.8 size I will be a buyer. Then again, I like the bigger sizes ![]() |

Aren't Kobo still using an old version of the RMSDK, and perhaps (hand waving wildly) that's why they can't get PDF reflow/whatever using that old version?

New to the thread, so a quick thanks for all the links to reviews. After its ominous quiet, I'm really pleased Kobo is coming out swinging again. The new device sounds even better than I hoped it might.
Personally, I'm not so fussed about the loss of the SD slot, since I've never actually used the one in my Aura HD. (I know, others' needs vary; I'm just speaking for myself). The drop in battery life ... well, I guess there's got to be a trade-off for the new lights and the size of the screen. And speaking of the lights, I'm really happy about the ability to grade colour temperature on the display. That's a fantastic facility to have. For the new firmware: on my current Aura HD, the light intensity slider is hopelessly clunky, so I'd love to see that get a redesign. I wonder how long it'll take to be available in Australia? ;-) |

From memory, they upgraded around the time ADE 4 came out. I don't know if they have updated more recently. But, they would be using a more recent version than the Sony's, which do reflow.

That is a really nice looking and sounding device. Happy for those that wanted something bigger. Looking at the videos, I would not be able to hold it and not drop it out of my hand. Bezel would be too small, would be a 2 hander.
I do like the light feature though with the color warmth changing, that is really neat. Maybe that is something they can make a kindle with in the future. I always wondered about the Kobo's, but then I read all the threads here about all the tweaking, installing this and that, this plugin for this and that, I always thought of them as not being for someone like me in any case as I do not mess with any of those things. Its also very tough to switch to a completely different system when one has books in one format since 2008 that I can access at my fingertips. I don't like downloading everything on my readers, so no matter how good those devices are, I wouldn't or couldn't be switching for those reasons. But its nice to see competition still in the e-ink area. I do like the overdrive integration, that is neat. I guess if Kobo ever decides to drop kindle support from the libraries as they own it now, I might have to get one just to be able to read library books. I hope that never happens, but one never knows. As regular sized one though, not a super sized. ![]() |
