I'm not sure it's even possible to drive with one foot, is it? One foot for the clutch, the other for the brake/accelerator. How are you going to change gear and accelerate or brake with one foot?
You drive a manual. My father learned on a manual but as soon as he could he started driving automatics.
You are a one footed driver. One foot for brake and accelerator.
A two footed driver keeps one foot on the accelerator and one on the brake in an automatic transmission car.
Does that clear it up for you?
Note, my granddad told me that will wear out the brakes faster.

Harry I agree with you our driving test are a joke, and most that I see driving in the country have no business drive at all. By the way I have been driving now for 51 years and I have never been in an accident that I caused. And have only been in 3 accidents. All were caused by someone not watching what they were doing and rammed me in the backend while I was stopped at a light or stop sign.

The wiki article might clear this up and I don't have time to look at it right now, but wouldn't deaths per mile traveled be more instructive still?

I was answering HarryT's sudden left turn.
No, not all accidents are avoidable.
Two words Ranger Hill and cross winds. Also that one area of Interstate 10 between Junction and Sonora.
Those two areas, I do believe safe following distance is either double or triple the recommended. And I wouldn't even recommend looking at a gps.

I have been on Ranger hill in an ice/snow storm. That place is really scary.

I think that would depend on the circumstances.
Never mind I was thinking stretches of roads.

Yep. You know I still get a bit nervous right there and glad the husband is driving. That is without snow and ice.

Hmm...I have a friend with only one arm, and he lived (and drove) in England for years. I know that he doesn't drive specially made cars--any car with an automatic transmission will work for him.

Are you sure that the law isn't because of distracted driving?

I once saw a man driving down the road watching a porno on his laptop.

My wife once took a full size van down red mountain pass in Colorado, in a blizzard. There aren't any guard rails to prevent you from going over a cliff or even seeing the edge of the road.

My cousin had a no-footed van. Same van also had no driver's seat. She just wheeled herself into the driver's spot. I wish I had taken the time to see how it worked but I was only in her van one time and it was parked.

I too have a one-armed friend who drives, and although it's a standard (automatic) car, he has to have a knob attached to the steering wheel to hold to allow him to safely turn it one-handed. You can't make a sharp turn holding a normal steering-wheel one handed.

One of these:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B0040K0DFS

(But his knob is bigger )

HarryT,
Here in the US a standard is a manual transmission.

Our car dealers ask do you want a standard or an automatic transmission?
Hence without your clarification on the post about your friend, I would have been wondering how your friend drove one handed.
Note pesky English to English again.
Editing to add: I think those knobs are illegal here in the US unless one has a permit for them.
