Anyway, I still like mine regardless of the number of page flips.
It's a standard marketing line from PVI. All the manufacturers use it. It's not a "lie", just a result from highly artificial test conditions. Rather like fuel consumption figures for a car, it doesn't reflect "real world" usage.

I wouldn't mind doing that - but I fear this would break the batteries earlier. As far as I know about LiIon batteries, each charging cycle counts, no matter whether it's a complete or a partial one, and after a certain number of cycles, the batteries slowly die. Of course the batteries can be easily replaced, but I don't know whether the Cybook batteries are of any standard type or not (anyone?).
Last time I read up on this the claim was that it does not count as a whole cycle. It just counts for the percentage you actually charged so the recommendation as to top it up often. Fully discharging is not so good. And strong heat is not so good which might explain why laptop batteries are more sensitive.

Regarding the number of page flips of battery life ...

I bet that the recommended flashing refresh counts as two page flips for each page turn. First it refreshes once to clear the original page, and then it refreshes again to write the actual new page. So, a rated 8000 page flips would only be 4,000 actual if you have the flashing flip turned on.

I received my Cybook yesterday. Corrupt Sd card gave me a scare as it kept hanging the machine. On a hinch removed it and formatted it and now it is Ok. read the instructions in this thread this morning and updated the firmware and all went well and worked first time. Re downloaded the books I was using on my iliad and that all went well. Was most worried about the Chambers dictionary, my most expensive single online book purchase.

The process would have been a lot more complex if not for this forum and this thread in particular.

I have nothing to add on battery life but to say it beats the hell out of my last reader and I have 2 batteries.
