ha ha ha. You're in the right company. If anything we are only trigger happy if it comes to press that BUY button for a new ereader.

No you wouldn't want to see it, trust me I saw it on Saturday and cannot sleep since. I had to hold on tight to my wallet today so I wouldn't go to cash desk with a box in hand.

Well you know I'm a very mean person and why should I suffer alone? You can bet I'll be wiggling in my chair / sofa when people here will start getting their Voyages. Luckily not available internationally yet.

I guess I'd cave in and order it Tuesday night for delivery on Wednesday only this Wednesday I'm going for 1 day shopping trip to London so nobody home to receive the parcel. I can't promise next week I will manage not to order it though. It is SO difficult to stop and reason with myself

The screen was lovely, but it won't connect to the PC, I get a Format Disc message on both Calibre and the Kobo Desktop. Tried a factory reset but that didn't change anything.

I know what you mean. Gadgetitis robs us of reason. It seems no shops in the states carry the H20 (some independent book sellers carry the Aura) and I'm leery to order one directly from Kobo, but darn I really want to see it in person. Let me know if (when ) you order it next week. hee hee! How much better was the screen than your PW2? Was the contrast a lot better? Sigh. Why can't all new e-readers just mysteriously appear on my doorstep.

Such bad luck. Glad to hear the screen was lovely though. I have a good feeling your next one will be perfect!

I find it extremely hard to resist this time although I have a perfect PW1 (not PW2) The screen of H2O from what I saw, even unlit, was much whiter, letters more black and very sharp. I also have K3 in excellent condition and Cybook Opus. That would be 3 unused ereaders in my cupboard if I buy H2O. But I have come to realise I'm tired with such limited choice of fonts Amazon offers (and what with this "personal" on my covers anyway). I keep old firmware and backdoor lock on my PW1 so I still have use alt fonts and Charis on it. But why do I have to go through hoops - if I order Voyage it will be the same. I never had an ereader with Carta screen yet either and I was impressed with clarity. I didn't see much though because the H2O was not set up in the shop. But it was lovely.

The first ereader I really LOVED was Opus but now page turns are really slow in comparison and screen is murky (although it too is in excellent condition). I have a big sentiment for it while K3 I never really liked. PW is all right but it never was my prrreciousss I have a feeling H2O will be the ereader to love. Come next Tuesday night (I'm home every Wednesday so I can receive parcels) I'll have to be tough...

A random observation:

I'm absolutely stunned that reviews (and even people here) complain about the weight and size of the HD/H20. How did people handle normal books?

Am I one of those really strong people who has no issue at all holding 50-60 extra grams?

Also, why is almost every review glossing over the screen size? I find the 6.8 inch hardly to big... I'd love even bigger. Or is that my age/eyes?

Since I already own an Aura HD and my last Kindle was/is a KK, I suppose I'm due for the Voyage next. Besides which, it looks as though autumn cleaning -- mine or someone else's -- might have unintentionally removed my KK for good, which also means my Amazon content needs a home.

Still, the waterproof aspect of the H2O, as well as its other improvements on the AHD, make that device more tempting to me personally than the Voyage.

Leave out detractors' diatribes against Amazon's supposed evil -- leave out the bogus battle of marketing styles disguised as ideologies -- and what I'm left with is a practical/aesthetic difference in UIs that still leaves me partial to the H2O.

Kobo's UI seems to me to be less intrusive, though it's also far more glitchy than Amazon's. Amazon's customer service is absolutely better than Kobo's -- virtually anyone else's is -- but the Kobo Store's coupon codes do make up for a lot of inconvenience.

The difference between UIs isn't massive, but I do find it irritating when Amazon flashes ads and/or books I despise, and when it guides me through content like a patriarchal hand gloving the tiny hand of an infant. You want to draw back and say, "Look, I know what I'm doing."

* * * *

In the past, I could justify buying Amazon and ePub readers because the magazine I edit was published in both formats (as well as on glossy paper). These years, we publish web, pdf and perfect-bound paper editions, which means I'd be buying a Voyage for purely hedonistic reasons.

If Sony were still in the game and had embraced 300 ppi front-lit e-ink, I'd probably have chosen their e-reader over the H2O and Voyage.

Pity that the choice is now winnowed to two, but spiffy that both the Kobo and the Kindle are so tempting.

Well, if most of a person's library are available in mass market paperbook, the Aura would be a more representative of that size and dimension.

Me personally, I have mostly hardcover books and technical books that I read that are much heavier and larger than the big size of the Aura H2O and thus an extra 50 grams feels negligible to me.

My paperbacks are all much heavier and much thicker.

An Ereader weighs as much as a small stack of leaflets and due to its rigidity it holds much easier.

An ereader is much more comforatble than a book. But the point here is, does the 230grams of the Kobo 6.8 models cause discomfort by a significant part of the population?

I meant the Voyage. The Voyage is 6.4" x 4.5" and a mass market paperback is 6.75" x 4.25". Size may be an issue for those who prefer a one-handed grip on their e-reader. Although 7.04" x 5.08" for the H2O doesn't bother me as I've always been a two-handed reader; I don't fold back pages on my mass market paperbacks.

The weight thing just makes me .

This makes me shudder... I always tried to keep the spine intact when reading books, even MMP's... So I am with you, I never understood that weight issue...
