As I said, there's been no tagged release of the python2and3 branch yet. Hence why you see nothing about it under the Releases section.

Where it says "branch master" (on the main page of the KindleUnpack repo), that's a drop-down box that will let you select other branches.

To use the python2and3 branch on your local machine, you clone the repo and checkout the python2and3 branch using git.

I don't really "object" to it at all. I'd just rather the names be dissimilar enough to avoid potential support confusion. I don't want users who are using your plugin to accidentally post questions in my plugin's thread, or vice versa.

Well, my fault again. But in my world I have to click the menu "2 branches", which is above and to the right of master menu - then under "Active branches" appears python2and3. Which is no excuse, I know.

I don't want users who are using your plugin to accidentally post questions in my plugin's thread, or vice versa.

please consider incorporating, I'll give you your 10 points back .

Updated the first post with an updated version of the KindleImport plugin (v0.80.2). I updated it to include the latest version of the underlying KindleUnpack engine (a fix for some Japanese specific metadata entries and a fix for some AZW3s that were suffering from broken TOC/NCX links after unpacking).

The plugin framework itself has one fix that was preventing it from opening mobi-only KindleBooks whose markup was encoded with the windows-1252 character encoding.

You'll need to install ActivePython and click the Auto button in the Manage Plugins dialog box.
However, if you want to convert several DRM-free AZW3 files, you may want to use Calibre instead.

You can convert AZW3 files with the Sigil Kindleimport plugin, but only one at a time and only if they're not DRM-protected.

Doitsu is right: if it's simple conversion you're looking for, calibre is probably better suited. The KindleImport plugin is for opening KindleBooks in Sigil for subsequent editing/tweaking/saving.

KindleImport IS converting/extracting to epub to be sure. But I wouldn't recommend it for straight-up conversion of Kindlebooks. For that, I'd recommend KindleUnpack or calibre.

FYI, tried to K you, (but had to spread it around some more, first, drat), because I just tried this, and DAMN, it works a TREAT. Really awesome.

I don't know how much we'll use it, but dang, when we do need it, this is going to be so useful. Thanks much for this.

I can't take all the credit. KindleUnpack does a lot of the work, and then perhaps you remember an old python script called mobiml2html? KevinH has helped me tweak that old script so that it can get the old mobiml at least closer to xhtml. It's not perfect, but it's responsible for generating the css from the mobi markup. I just gather it all up into an epub for Sigil to open.

The AZW3 import stuff is all KindleUnpack. I just have to pipe KU's epub output to Sigil. If the AZW3 still has the source package attached from kindlegen (and the source is an epub), KindleImport opens that source epub rather than unpacking the AZW3.
