If you're not putting it to sleep, it does stop the cats turning the pages.

It's the best possible protection for the screen outside of a case. Face down on a flat surface prevents dust, scratches and spills as long as the screen is recessed.

I'm not sure how its more safe from scratches face down. It seems to me that tables are inherently more scratch-inducing than air.

As far as spills go, its more safe from direct spills and less safe from spills nearby. And a flat screen is more safe form spills anyhow because there are no crevices for the liquid.

I would think that the flat display makes dust less of a problem as well.

I don't know. I would much rather give the screen as much distance from the surface as possible. It's more safe being kept away from spills around it on the table, accidentally knocks across the table and things you didn't notice on the table when you put it down.

This is why I always keep my readers in a case, and always close the case when I put the reader down for any reason.

Me too.

Which is one reason I am looking forward to the new design on the amazon cover. The magnetic connection will make it easy to take the device out of the case for long reading sessions and easy to put back in even if I am only putting it down for a few minutes. It looks like the perfect combination of case and sleeve.

I'm not convinced that I like the idea of a case that open upwards with a hinge at the top, rather than opening like a book. I've ordered the leather "Origami" case for my Voyage; I'll try it for a while and see how I like it.

I felt the same way, but then I decided I was letting my bias for "it looking more like a book" sway me. I have come around to the idea that the hinge on top might actually be less trouble than the hinge on the side.

I ordered the cheaper one because it looked like it was thinner. If the leather one was thinner I would have shelled out extra for that.

I need to find a way to stop the cat turning the pages when I'm reading, or failing that, find a way to train the cat to turn the pages when *I* want it The furball was randomly turning pages on the K3 and also does it on the PW2, it's most annoying!

If the screen is recessed like the PW1/2 lying the device face down on a hard flat surface protects the screen. the device will be lying on the bazel which stands proud of the screen, there will be a gap between the surface its stood on and the screen itself.

Obviously this only works if the surface you are lying the device on is hard and completely flat, dinner table, breakfast bar, kitchen work top etc...

For those interested in the relative weight of the Kindles I have weighed my PW1 and the wifes PW2 both of which are fitted with the official Amazon cases. Only differnce is the colour, one pink (not mine ) one black.

PW1 = 342g
PW2 = 343g

Be interesting to see what the weight of the Voyager + Oragami (leather and fabric) case is.

...and there's nothing on the table that you didn't notice (keys, glasses, etc), and you don't spill anything next to it, and you don't accidentally knock it across the table, etc...

Thanks, but I will stay with the one risk of dropping something on it over the, IMO, greater risks of putting it face down.

Plus, with no bezel, the risks of spilling something are reduced since it will probably just wipe clean.

Voyage 180 or 188g for wifi and 3G
Case 136g

Total is 316, or 324g

If you replace the origami case with the Belkin the weight drops to 298g or 306g

Amazon quote both leather and non leather origami cases as the same weight.
