Metric calendar! I love it! Too bad there's no way to make 100-day years, everything could be nice and orderly.

We just have to move the Earth closer to the Sun, or increase the Sun's mass, or make the days longer.

... or we can forget about the "natural" day/night and season cycles and define days and years in whichever way we want (why 24 hours in a day and 60 minutes in an hour, anyway)?

Because 12 has so many more factors than 10?

Only 4 more days now!! Ring finger day.

And I curse the person who decided a week should contain a prime number of days. Although I guess that was God so I can't say anything more about that.

I think the Sumerians (or some such), in the land that invented writing for administrative/counting purposes (taxes already), and who developed astronomy/astrology, needed to manage big numbers. So the 60 base, with many more factors than 10 (traditional counting on one's fingers), among them 12.

And as recently as the late 18th century, Goethe was lost when visiting northern Italy which counted the hours of daylight (as far as I remember).

Still no sign of any retailer having it in the UK. WHSmith is supposed to be the main retailer but they haven't got a clue.

I think it probably predates the Bible, back when months were literally measured by the moon (28 days between each full moon), and a quarter moon of 7 days was a nice easy measurement.

Also, someone's gonna be pretty disappointed when Tuesday comes and goes with no word on shipping from Kobo. I'm counting on at least a week or two past the "release date" before it's in my hands.

I think I read somewhere that there had been a factory recall of all H20s because of a hardware fault, with delivery possible next spring. I cannot recall where I read this

Actually, Romulus (who founded Rome!) had it right in the first place: ten months. They alternated between short months and long months because as everyone knows the moon's phases only last 28.5 days. (The festivals kept getting getting out of season so the priests had to fix the calendar every few years and throw in a really long month or two to get everything synced up.)

I think Julius Caesar is your man. He set up this situation. But he might have gotten it right after all because in Julius' calendar the h2os are promised to be shipped October 1, Mercury's day in Ceasar's calendar. In English we named it after Woden but Mercury seems appropriate for the present discussion because Mercury is the messenger of the gods, AKA: good old Canada Post!

Well, Mercury is also god of merchants and thieves (no stealing of parcels with h2o, hear me Mercury?)
That said my finger hovers over preorder button although no no no I don't need another ereader (epic fail)
Who was this Gregory after whom we have the calendar now? (kidding!)

Seems bogus. Surely one of the more popular sites would have gotten wind of it and trumpeted this news to the masses.

The shop I pre-ordered from changed the status few days ago to approx. 2 weeks till shipping. Which coincides with vandafc's info. Yahoo!

Anyone planning to get the Kindle Voyage as well for the collector's soul in you?

I've already ordered the Voyage, it's the H20 I can't get. The only seller in the UK so far is Kobo itself

Wait, so you can't even pre-order it? That's weird.
