a german user also got it and seems to be quite happy with it except for a reader app crash : (post https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...=239748&page=5 translated into english ) : https://translate.google.fr/translat...%3D5&sandbox=1

Quote:
First impressions:
Large and heavy. I have to hold it with both hands. But I do usually with a book too.
There are two keys to scroll to the side. Should there not be three times? The "knärtzen" unfortunately. I am reminded of plastic and Elaste from Schkopau ... This may Kobo and Kindle better. But the leaves but also the touch screen can be used. Why should I change my habits? In the read mode to the menu it is only by pressure on the display in the top left.
The display contrast is not as high as at the Lux Touch, but the lighting is excellent and evenly. Think with the lower contrast I can live with, especially since the letters are now bigger and Schäfter.
The lighting can be regulated continuously. Did it just connected via USB mode and notice that the lighting by tapping the top of the screen still can be controlled. Bug or Feature?
For USB mode: 2.7.0 Calibre recognizes the reader and the Übertrageung is fast.
For software: it is still the software with the old menu structure on it.
A software update was not available. That would do the reader but quite well: after several pages turn he lays a commemorative one second. The Reader crashed after the first turn and after turning on the language and the time was interrogated again.
The case is now up plan, ie the display is no longer admitted. Pleasant.
Conclusion: up on the story with the keys and software (I had at least expected the Ultras) the device is quite successful. Hope PocketBook improved since after quickly, also a new theme would be nice.

a few more impressions:

With the orignal cover of the Reader is 532g heavy. Ok it is now loaded in and thus heavier.
The cover makes a quality impression. It is the design which is already used came with the PocketBook Touch Lux Limited Edition. In the closed state, the lid is held in place by magnets. Unfortunately, it does not stand. The few grams would also have been bearable. For the shell looks very valuable.
It is thus clear that I will only use the InkPad home. In my bulging backpack drivers it's probably kapput.

Included are again the fbreader and the adobe reader. Where is what has changed are the fonts. LiberationSants on the Lux I use the font size 32. On the use Inkpad I z.Zt, I must again test a little, DroidSansFallback in 42. It fit on the InkPad still more words in a row and what's important to me is: it is much easier to read.

How did I get out now can be übrigends configure the two keys. Suitable for everyday use to scroll it does not work. But can be perfectly put the menu on it. But to call the menu on the upper left corner I got used to.

Software crashes sibility übrigends no further.

Conclusion: the purchase and the wait was worth it. Especially due to the higher resolution, the books are easier to read.

You *can* get a program to open a selected filetype. So I do know my extensions.cfg was in the right place and working.

Specifically for epub, I was unable to get the "Open with" menu. It did work for html. I have even "stolen" epubinfo program from inside theme that SirSteiner created for PB623 and used it successfully on PB650 to open epubs. BUT! once you selected an app that is supposed to open a chosen epub, the reader always opened this particular book with selected program. The beauty of the "Open with" functionality is that when you are not satisfied with how the epub is displayed with one program, you can open the same book with a different one.

There are many other shortcomings in the new 5.xy firmware.
- the front-page ONLY has thumbnail display for the read books, and only three of them at the same time. There is "last added books" thumbnails beneath this. In the 4.something firmware you can select what is displayed on a home page and in what format.
- In the library extensions.cfg is not working properly - see the above description
- In the library you can't select "display filenames". the reader always displays title and author as set in metadata and that is not always desirable. I personally like to rename all the books using Calibre when loading them into subdirectories, and I have series number at the beginning of the filename. All books in series are, of course, in a subdirectory with the series name. You can side-step this issue by creating yet another level of subdirectories, but why do I have to piss against the wind, when it worked flawlessly in PB360?
- In the reading app fbreader is almost identical to Adobe reader. I used to use Adobe reader when I wanted to see the book as formatted by publisher (which was very rarely). When I wanted to set my own format I used fbreader. Now fbreader ignores my attempts to set margins, justification and other stuff.
- there is new "Android-like" status line at the top of the screen in homepage, options page and in library, that you can also switch on in book as well. It is a good idea, BUT, now you can only display pagenumber at the bottom status line in fbreader or Adobereader. If you wanna see time, battery or WiFi status you have to have TWO status lines. In 4.xy firmware you can select from EIGHT items to see in a bottom status line, such as time, battery status ... And do not get me started with comparison with FBReader180 that worked so beautifully on PB360 or CoolReader that I have on PB623
- There are fewer configuration options for reading apps in 5.xy as compared to 4.xy firmware, and 4.xy has fewer than firmware on PB360. And all of them pale in comparison with FBReader180 or Coolreader. This is extremely worrisome trend.
- In short, the new firmware underwent a heavy Kindlification. PHEW!
</rant mode>

By the way - location of the extensions.cfg depends on whether you have activated the user profiles or not.

If it is firmware 4.something, then there is high probability that you can install Coolreader.
If it is 5.xy family of firmware then, most probably, we would have to wait until PocketBook gets extensions.cfg working for epub before installing Coolreader.
Have a look at Onyx BOOX Lynx. Front-lit screen, Android 4.0 with Google Play store working, you can install several dozens of reading apps *AND* a Calibre Companion. *Now* talk about a dream machine ;-)
The firmware is 4.4.1073

I am happy.
4.4 is in my opinion much better [at this moment, at least] than 5.4 that PocketBook Ultra 650 has.

If 'kindlification' is a lasting trend I'll never buy another PocketBook I'm afraid. The flexibility of the device was the very reason I selected my Touch. Too bad if that goes away.

I ordered an InkPad 840 from http://boutique.pocketbook.fr/index....duct&id_lang=3 last night.

However, the auto email reply (after the order and payment confirmation came back as "out of stock" and that there would be a "slight delay" in shipping.

Will wait patiently

I've been wrestling between ordering immediately and waiting to hear a bit more about the device. I guess I can stop wrestling for a while.

Well, I guess, like me, you are not short of e-ink devices I think I will order the Cybook Ocean as well, then cut back to two devices, with perhaps one spare...

i've oredered mine from here: http://ctecky-elektronickych-knih.he...ok-840-inkpad/, because on some other site, namely this: http://e-readerweb.nl/index.php?item...000154&lang=NL, is almost 30 euros more expensive and have a strange way of dealing with payments made with debit card, credit card or paypal, which is a ripoff: they charge the buyer with 2,5% more if you use a card, and with 3,5% more if you, as a buyer, use paypal. and not taking into account the postage fee, which is quite a lot. to cut a long story short, for the InkPad and the cover, the final amount was 274 euros. take a lok at this:

but, if you choose to buy from that czech site, you gotta make sure that you pick up an affiliate which delivers internationally or, at least, in europe. I've payed for mine 189€+27€ postage, without the cover.
I am expecting mine somewhere in the beginning of the next week.

Do try out the firmware. PocketBook has dramatically improved firware versions in the past, so I guess that sooner or later they will resolve many of the issues I was ranting about (and introduce new and interesting ones, but that is a different rant ;-) ).

I'm not sure I want to do that...

In the comment of this article (french) :
http://www.ilestbiencelivre.com/457/...etbook-inkpad/
They say the status bar for PDF has incresed size !

Plus the screenshot of this interface doesn't look so appealing to me....

What I would like to know if any of you have tryed it, is about the options, is there new stuff added ?
Anything they removed ? (heard that you can't choose the system font anymore)

And a noob question , what is "Adobe RMSDK library 10th version" ?

I also looked in the .cfg files for a way to put PDF reflow mode on default when opening one without any success....
