![]() EDIT: FYI, the problem shakechan had was solved in a series of PMs. I will not give details (or even hints) in fear of certain warnings against posting "technical details". There is no Dev Corner thread in which to post them, so speaking in GENERAL terms that people in this forum can understand, you will have to GUESS how it was solved. ![]() Regarding the "ads" question, the GENERAL answer is "yes". I cannot give details here. We GENERALLY discourage that anyway, so you need to do a little research on your own to find the "technical details". I recommend looking in the Kindle Developer's Corner forum (i.e. "dev sub-forum" as HarryT called it above). Please ask technical questions (such as "Help Me!") in the Dev Corner forum, mostly because that is where members who CAN give useful answers usually hang out, but also because if you ask them here you risk getting SPANKED! ![]() Last edited by geekmaster; 06-11-2012 at 11:56 AM. |

Apprentice?
Can anyone confirm whether the *cough* Alf-related Calibre plugin still works on books downloaded after a 4.1.0 update?
I don't expect much success on KF8 books of course, but I'd be disappointed if Amazon have mucked about with the AZW files and broken the tools. |

It's an awful lot easier to download your books with K4PC/K4Mac, do the Alf thing with that version, and then transfer them to the Kindle.

Maybe it was just a brainfart on my part. I might have a go later just to satisfy myself that I can use K4PC as a fallback for mobi conversions, then apply the 4.1.0 firmware. |

I know you are just trying to help 'everyone' but I think it would be a big help to normal users like myself, who do not want to hack their Kindles, if you would please re-direct hacking-related ?'s to the Development sub-forum. If you don't think that there is a relevant thread, then please start one. I find your inclusion of hack-related information in this, and many of your other posts in this main forum to be unnecessary and confusing. Not a spanking, just a suggestion, lol! Thanks. |

Well I've now updated to 4.1.0:
The Good Font rendering seems clearer at smaller sizes - the serif shapes seem better defined. I normally read at size 3 and cannot perceive much difference at that size and larger, but subjectively the two smaller sizes (even the smallest) are easier to read. The Bad Moving the Turn Wireless on/off feature over to the Settings page really is quite annoying. Most of the things which need Wi-Fi can be initiated from the menu (Kindle Store, Check & Sync) and trigger a prompt to switch on Wi-Fi, which is reasonable; but hunting in the Settings page to switch it off again is a nuisance. Actually what really grates is that the sense has been negated: now instead of turning wireless off, we're turning Airplane Mode on. I suppose it's more consistent with the Fire and other Android devices, and I'll get used to it in time, but I can see a lot of people my parents' age running their battery down fast because they can't see how to disable the radio. |

I saw this asked a couple time, but not answered.
Did they fix the line-height bug for kf8 or does it still look double-spaced? |

I have a k5 and would like to know if they are ignoring the problem or fixing it, so I can start converting some fancier books on my tbr pile to kf8.
If it was fixed in 4.1 it should also be in 5.1.1 for us. Last edited by WT Sharpe; 07-05-2012 at 09:15 AM. Reason: Removed quote of deleted post. |

My K4 just upgraded and I don't like the extra steps I have to take to turn WiFi on and off. That's not an improvement.
