Watch the news. Check how many people are without jobs in USA, on foreclosure or maybe without anything to eat for dinner tonight.

1k is expensive! I have a 2011 Mac air, but that does not mean is cheap.

$500.00 USA dollars is a more reasonable price for someone who wants a computer or laptop. If you can get or not what Apple can or cannot offer, that's different, but I was talking about prices.

No, the touchpad was not great technology. Webos is very good and arguably ahead of other mobile OSes. But the OS is just one piece. There's the hardware, app availability, developer support, and yes, marketing. HP whiffed on all those, and furthermore had no belief or patience and pulled the plug after a month. HP::tablet as Fox::SciFi shows.

Let's take for example the Mac air, the $999.99 model. Do you really think that 1k is a fair price for that netbook? Or, in other words, can that price be lower, without affecting Apple's profitability, so more consumers and users can buy?
We have a free market. I think if someone can make the mac air and make a profit with a lower price, they will. And in fact that will happen. Intel is now pushing ultra thin laptop.

http://www.intel.com/consumer/produc...ultra-thin.htm

But because apple was first and they're apple, they get to charge a premium. Which is fair.

shareholders should be livid right now!!! Unbelievable failure. This should be an HBS case. This goes into the pantheon of "i told you so"s. I still can't believe they were dumb enough to buy palm. They stuck with it instead of going with Android...they could have done an Android tablet, although that would have pissed off msft also.

Lenovo, and Dell to a lesser extent. In my experience. Lenovo makes solid, though often pricey machines. Asus also has a decent reputation for reliability iirc.

One of many. As you stated earlier the X-servers are pathetic... only allow scalability, hot swap, terabytes of data handling when clustered, capable of being building blocks for some of the most powerful (and cheapest) supercomputers in the world with X-grid and other tech but you know better... I was just irritated enough to spend 10 minutes doing a search and found plenty of data supporting the use of one or more X-servers at all levels...

As I'm not an apologist for Apple, I only mention this in passing because your earlier remark about Apple tech was wrong but since you obviously know better then believe what you like... I just remembered that their server tech was being used and at high levels so I checked for information before commenting... and yes, X-servers aren't the only game in the ballpark but they are considered serious contenders by MIT, Japanese earthquake studies groups (X-serve cluster supercomputer) and many others... and no, I won't provide links because if you want them then do a simple search... something like "OS-X server supercomputers"

Hmpfh, maybe it is early to come up with such an outrageous claim, but the things are not looking good for Intel and AMD.

Forget about the (false or true) claim that "tablets will replace a personal computer", the dominance in embedded and mobile markets is really, really fueling the development and evolution of ARM-based hardware. These processing cores are cheap, notoriously power savvy, have a small silicone footprint, everybody (and their mother) can license the core technology... the day will come, and soon, when someone will pack about a "gazillion" of these into a single chip and push them into the workstation or even server environment.

Sorry to disagree,

I was fully aware of that link and products. But that does not compete with Oracle or HP high end servers.

Go check or ask what Fortune companies run or use for their Oracle databases and info. It is not an Apple server for sure.

No need for link. My group runs/admin most of those high end servers around the globe, even outside the company. I have never seen an Apple one, sorry.

Again, talking about serious business, big companies, big budgets.

Just got an email from WebOS Developer Relations:

Quote:
We will continue to support, innovate and develop the webOS App Catalog. Our intent is to enhance our merchandising and presentation of your great products and to continue to build our webOS app ecosystem.
They aren't canceling the upcoming WebOS developer events, but say:
Quote:
We are planning to continue with these events, however, due to the recent announcements; the nature of them will change.

Wow, they are going to be cut to $99/$149?

Again sorry, who cares about big business having more ways to make more money by screwing over more people and their privacy... talking serious research which requires serious computing not just handling dirty great databases... research that results in new ideas, saving lives, reducing surprise elements in big seismic and meteorological events - supercomputers... many, made from X-servers, X-grid and custom tools using parallel processing...

Dozens of retailers, within driving distance of me, have sold out of both models and none are available online. $99 and $149!
