Seems like a lot of you people will believe any blog or news rag you read. It is pretty clear the Reg had no clue, no special knowledge, and no business pretending they did! Maybe they thought they could hack into Rowlin's cell phone.

It made for an entertaining thread with multiple pages of posts from people wanting to believe the unbelievable.

Well, we're desperate for news! We want news now! More! More! And the juicier the better

Fiction does have a tendency to be interesting. I know I'm coming late to this particular thread but the quoted article in the OP is utter rubbish! JKR said from the first announcement of the HP ebooks is that they would be made available on all formats. They also said there would be NO Sony exclusivity for the ebooks.

That site/author/both, has zero credibility!

I just finished reading this thread. Can I get that 15 minutes back please?

I couldn't agree more with what you said Jswinden! What absolute nonsense. I can't believe anybody with any real interest in Harry Potter, JK Rowling or Pottermore and followed the true press releases would know that just about the only truth in that posting is that the HP books would be released finally in eformat.

What a bunch of crap that was!

Sorry to rain on the old parade, but I do find it so boring when people - sometimes with, apparently, precious little knowledge of the subject - are happy to criticise, and bestow all manner of mean and nasty motives, conspiracy theories, unfounded plans, and plain unpleasantness on someone who has already done an enormous amount of good for disadvantaged and sick children, plans to continue this, and indeed increase it.
You know, like they have much better ideas themselves ?

Obviously, it is possible that many of those who do this carry out an incredible amount of unpaid work in this field themselves, and for some reason see JKR's activities as not enough, considering her self-made wealth, and that bankers, politicians, and political parties, the oil business, etc. aren't obliged to do so - perhaps because they don't write entertaining books for children, but do far more meaningful things like mess about with countries' economies...........

Indeed some contributions in this vein seem to smack of pure spite, or could it possibly be envy ?

Not, of course, about the fact that Ms.Rowling has a lot of money, oh no, heaven forbid............
It's probably that she came with her charity initiatives just a bit before they did ? Yes, that's bound to be it...............

@carpetmojo, do you want to keep it civil? I wasn't spinning conspiracy theories, I was pointing out that there's a difference between net and gross and I think the article didn't parse that difference. I'm not accusing Rowling of murdering children for fun, I just don't think they're going to run the eBook business at a loss in order to give ALL proceeds (rather than net proceeds) to charity.

If I'm wrong, I'm wrong, but Rowling doesn't need you riding in to defend her honor when I haven't accused her of anything.

How about we just end the thread, since it sounds like it was a false report.

True enough. It's part of being human. I take issue though that all the info was given in the initial press conference by JKR back in July. It seemed to me like they wanted on the bandwagon and were just guessing at things. *shrugs*

Im thought I did manage to keep it moderately civil, anamardoll.

Although my post wasn't in a direct answer to yours, rather used it as a peg to hang it on, and I confess I took the general tone of mine from yours, to be honest.

And I'm not silly enough to see myself as JKR 's champion - I simply comment on things I read, and I do get bored at apparently uninformed , rather unpleasant slants aimed in her direction in particular - because I am very aware of all the work and things she does for children.
If you do have a conspiracy theory about her/Pottermore and net and gross, whether she dyes her hair, or that Marlowe wrote Shakespeare's plays, or hint that, I think I have every right to comment on that.
A suggestion is often as good as a poke in the eye, as I'm sure you know.............
