I sympathize. No idea how/why that might have happened, first I've heard of a
Lion upgrade specifically affecting calibre. Did you talk to Apple Support? Did you provide details in a post in the calibre forum here so knowledgable calibre people might respond? Anyway, I intentionally trashed all of my eBooks last month and started over from zero, redownloading what I'd bought from Amazon, grabbing Baen free CDs again, etc. So I know a little of what a hassle it is to start over, though in my case I'd feel a lot worse if it had happened against my will….
Thank you unboggling. I have not spoken with APPLE Support. I was hoping to solve without doing so. Their Customer Care APPLE is great. With my Kindle for MAC I went to AMAZON KINDLE. They were more helpful. I believe it is because the Kindle is their product. So CALIBRE is here. I will contact APPLE now that you suggest it. No I did not post here. This is my first post here. Still learning. I appreciate your ideas.

I recently decided to purchase the OSX Lion. I am planning to try to dual boot this with Snow leopard so that i have something to fall back to.

Can anyone comment how the Lion works on a late 2009 13 inch MBP?
This is a 2.53 Ghz Core 2 Duo, 4GB Ram, 320GBHDD MBP.
My MBP is still very solid and healthy so am thinking of letting it run for a couple of more years.

I recently actually reinstalled snow leopard to try to clean of the grime i have accumulated over 2 yrs. My biggest issue is to get all the necessary data back, but leave out the unnecessary ones.
For eg., i have had to separately copy itunes folders, addressbook, mail folders, firefox data etc.,
Again this is because i dont want to get back all the old time machine stuff as i want a like new system with only data i want, but nothing more.

Does anyone know if there are Apps that can selectively restore such data? Like maybe recognizes popular apps and restores these from time machine along with their data?
Or is there an uninstaller sort of app that will work like Windows, and clean the app and its data?

I'm running it on a late 2008 Macbook (first aluminum one) with no issues. I have 4G RAM, 2.0 GHz C2D, 500G drive.

I want to share that Apple Support and Kindle Customer Care helped me resolve the glitch between the Calibre and the MAC OS X LION, and the Kindle for MAC APP conflict. Unboggling''s suggestion to call Apple helped. It appears to me that the problems I experienced were growing. Many folks do not, as I did not, contact support for help until their at wits end. That being said, the problems are random. In the end, no one was able top help me decide what caused the glitch. "Just one of those things".

I'm glad the glitch got resolved. I'll be happy to make a couple of suggestions regarding forums here. You mentioned having a Kindle and using calibre. As you probably know already, MobileRead (MR) has a list of forums - that page is this link:
MobileRead Forums, main forums page.

Link to MR's Amazon Kindle Forum:
Amazon Kindle - MobileRead Forums, main Kindle forum page.

Look for a sticky (special thread) at top of that forum:
Links Every Kindle Owner Should Have, post/sticky by poohbear_nc.

Link to MR's calibre Forum, which is a general calibre forum that has various sub-forums, here:
calibre - MobileRead Forums, main calibre forums page.

The stickies at the top of calibre's main forum and each of its sub-forums are good information, depending on what you're interested in dealing with at the time. Look for "start here" or "introduction to" type of phrases in the stickie titles to get started.

I haven't tried uninstalling Apple apps that came with the OS with uninstallers, but suspect it wouldn't work well. It would probably work well for third party apps though. As far as I know, the way you manually copied stuff you wanted to preserve is one way to do what you wanted. And that is discouraged by Apple. And doesn't always catch everything from other places in the system. So the cleanest way is to use the Migration assistant to do everything, including all the garbage you don't want, then use a deinstaller to selectively get rid of apps and their associated files you don't want. I use AppTrap, it works well. No idea if it works in Lion though.
