It doesn't take much for me - if it's shiny and new and nobody else has one yet then I'm usually pretty giddy.
Really the main thing is the overall touch experience - especially how quick and easy it is to look up words in the dictionary (my biggest pet-peeve on the original). If someone could get an integrated Wikipedia lookup as well in a rooted Nook Touch, that would be killer... The Pearl screen is great to have finally (I was SO close to asking for a K3 for Christmas instead of the Nook Classic so I've always been jealous of those kindle owners). Just looks great though - feels great. Looks like a perfect reader. Until the next shiny new one comes out... I'm amazed at some of the BN stores out there - you can tell the Fargo store employs a ton of booklovers and readers because they are all over the new Nook as well. They had just gotten to the two display units and I had to pry it out of the hands of one of the employees... I'm worried though - they are expecting their shipment today and they're not sure they're going to have enough to fill all of the pre-orders... (as you can tell, being blizzarded-in five months of the year, we have a lot of readers in this area). Hoping to get the email this morning to get mine... |

It is more difficult to implement zooming and panning on an eink screen than on LCD, because the refresh rate. It also requires more CPU processing for the rendering, which I believe is easier on tablets because a more powerful hardware under the hood.

The screen is also sharp and crips, same as Kindle 3. A big improvement if you had a Nook 1st generation, you will notice it at 1st eye. For people looking for a new eink reader and if they don't read PDFs or technical books, I would recommend the new Nook without a blink of an eye. I think is even more value that the Sony, which is also touchscreen. |

Hmmm. I've read many posts here previously saying that the Kindle 3's "Pearl" screen was NOT noticeably better than that of the nook. Never having personally seen a nook I can't judge for myself, but are you saying that the Pearl screen is in fact better?

Nice, me and a friend both pre-ordered and signed up for the free express shipping membership. Both shipped @ the same time and on the same truck(?). His shipped UPS ground, mine went UPS Surepost and both made it into town. His arrived this morning, while mine is at the post office waiting a couple days before it will be delivered. Nice job, B&B, nice job indeed.

Recieved my Nook Simple Touch yesterday via UPS! Love it so far. It is SOOOOO light in weight! My only problem so far is lack of a browser. The device should have this. Hopefully, they will add this in an update if enough people desire it.
Overall, well designed, and feels great in your hands. They have fixed the page advance buttons. Much better than the original. I returned two original units with the cracked button problem. Very happy with unit so far. |

But Nook Touch looks crisp, clear, and really nice. It's using the "Pearl" screen. |

Myself and a few others, we really couldn't tell all that much of a difference. I didn't think that the K3's screen was superior to the Nook's after the update, and I stand by that. I haven't seen the N2's screen yet so I haven't been able to compare, but if it's anything like the K3, it's not worth upgrading to. |

Regardless, if you own a Nook 1st gen and compare to a Nook Touch, the change is very noticeable and for better now. |

I think it just became engrained in many people to hear Pearl Screen and automatically think " Amazingly better" . but the nook added it on. If anything it just takes that issue of the table. Last edited by boswd; 06-03-2011 at 01:54 PM. |
