I understand. Far better to waste everyone else's time than your own.
My 4 year old is feeling fine, thankfully, so I have a little extra time to point out some netiquette to you, since you have obviously not picked any up on your own.

Normally I would not have replied at all, but you caught me while my tolerance for insultingly arrogant disregard for what other people post is at a critical low.

Hope your kid feels better soon!

ApK. Thank you for your kind post. I'm glad you had the opportunity to let your steam off by wheeling out big guns at some random person across 2 continents and an ocean who had the misfortune of posting 3 sentences about SW books in SW related thread. I now fully comprehend my incorrigible lack of manners by not religiously following the thread and I hope I will be forgiven for wasting everybody's time.

More or less what princess Leia said just before Han Solo asked "who's scruffy looking?"

As manager of a book shop in the early 21st century and website manager for said shop in the late 20th century, I can confirm that Geo-restrictions have existed for decades. If JSWolf doesn't believe that... tough.

It wasn't enforced to the letter, specialist shops could generally get away with importing small quantities for the UK market and get ignored as our shop was, partly because US copies were priced higher for much of the time and partly because the reps knew we would order UK editions when they were available...

You were here in 2009 when the publishers really started really enforcing geo restrictions on ebooks (they existed before that), I'm sure you can find some threads/articles.

The agency model launched in April of '10 about a year after the big geo restriction enforcement push.

Oh, the geo-restrictions did exist before the agency switch. But they where not as bad. The US shops already locked us out, and when the agency switch happens, the uk shops locked us out too. Agency books are gone from the few web-site that don't geo-restrict us.

Only kobo proposes me some of the agency books without having to lie about where I live.

Glad the 'speechless' thing didn't last long for you.

Seriously, I WAS letting off a bit of steam at you, so thank you for standing in for the handful of people I had to resist ripping the heads off of in the 24 hours previous.

ApK

P.S. Oh, wait, just one more shot:

Spoiler:
Rosebud is his sled.
Darth Vader is his father.
Bruce Willis is dead.

I wouldn't want you to strain yourself by having to religiously study the movies to find out!

It's too bad about the geo-restrictions, but I guess I'll just have to live with it. If that means going the not-quite-so-legal way, then so be it, but it's not like they're giving me a choice, seeing as I can only buy Star Wars novels from amazon.com for my Kindle. If they don't want my money, that's their problem.

Actually, I looked more carefully at the Star Wars e-books due out later this month on amazon.com, and the price tags are just disgustingly high. $ 9.65 for all the books that weren't released recently (those are, of course, even more expensive). That's not normal. The original paperbacks don't cost that much, in new condition, and most of them are so old, you can just about get them for free on eBay and other auction sites.

And the upcoming new hardcovers?
Choices of One, HC $ 15.71, Kindle $ 18.56
Heir to the Empire 20th ann. edition, HC 18.05, Kindle $ 20.98

They really are asking their customers to obtain e-books some other way, aren't they? Geez...

The problem with the most recent novels is that nearly all of them are part of long(er) series, like Fate of the Jedi (nine books) and the New Jedi Order (19 or so). I guess you could read any novel in those series, but I'm not sure how enjoyable that would be without knowing the full backstory. Never mind the fact that I never liked any of those novels as much as some of the old ones.

There are some newer stand-alone novels that come to mind, though. Zahn's Allegiance, set between Eps IV and V (the upcoming Choices of One is a sequel), and Luke Skywalker and the Shadows of Mindor, which, as a die-hard Luke fan, I really like. But real gems? Not IMHO.

Where do you live? In the US, their prices are almost in line with the print prices - $7.99 for MMPB titles, $9.99 for the Clone Wars titles that are only available in TPB, $13.99 for Choices of One, and Heir to the Empire 20th Anniversary is $14.99.

I just finished reading the most recent novel in the Fate of the Jedi series. I wouldnt recommend reading out of order but it has some excellent dialog. Including a sort of job interview between a potential security person for Amelia/Alana(too much to go into here) and Leia., which includes this bit

Leia " I thought you'd be a good choice."

Security "I just wanted to express my reservations. About my own lack of experience in one area. I mean, I don't know what to do if she cries"

Leia laughs " It takes a lot to make her cry. I suggest you empty a blaster rifle in the direction of whatever made her cry."

"That's...reassuring..."

thats the kind of stuff that keeps me coming back

Well, at first it was just the intimidating volume of books / available reading time ratio.

Then Greedo shot first.

Then Jar Jar.

But I am in recovery.

<sigh> If only this were so:
