And it's already August!

I didn't see the value of cropping odd and even pages differently until I noticed that they needed to be because of the original spine placement. Pretty cool...

Don't get me wrong, I'm thrilled my ipad will be here next week, but it certainly takes a back seat to the Japanese peoples problems.
MsAstoria,

It's a culture thing. And this is nothing against American people, I love my wife, which is American and love this country. But the advantages that people have here are taken from granted some times. Employment is one of those, for example. What people are seeing here was so common in my country that did not take me by surprise, where we are not accustom to pay with credit but cash and families never had a house during their lives (very common)

But yes, the production will be affected. I created a thread about it couple of days ago because some news have been leaked already and probably the reason why Apple shares when down recently.

I would like some suggestions from those of you that may have both the old and new iPads. I will be getting the second one for my wife this Tuesday. Should I sign her up with a new account or should we share my present account?
What happens to her email? Do contacts from yahoo get carried over, etc.?
Thanks.

Hi The Old Man,
How is your iPad set up/backed up now?
I gave my wife my iPad 1-here is how I set things up:

1) When I got the iPad 2, it asked me if I wanted to restore the settings from my iPad 1, I said yes. After a pretty lengthy transfer process I ended up with a clone of my iPad 1 on my iPad 2. I had to reset email passwords, some logins on apps, etc...Oddly, some apps remembered their logins-for example, LogMeIn, which gives me access to my work computers had it saved somehow, which was a bit disconcerting Games like Angry Birds saved my settings/places.

2) I then set up my iPad 1 for my wife, by syncing it with her computer. In this case, it copied the apps I had on the iPad 1 to her computer first, then we just reconfigured everything-deleted my email settings, added hers, etc.

3) We set them up with one iTunes account, so we could share apps. She could download any apps that I had bought/downloaded earlier with no problem. Her email settings, Facebook, etc. are maintained on her iPad 1 with no problem. We actually have 3 iPhones and 2 iPads all on the same iTunes account with no issues.

Good question.

And I think we are confusing Apple email ID with with the email accounts you configure inside iPad.

If you use previous Apple ID everything will be restored from previous one, all apps you bought already. That's when you sync for 1st time via iTunes.

I would share same Apple ID. Even for buying from market you need to retype the password anytime so you will keep some control anyway.

kjk, thanks.

I can see the advantages of one account. If two, then any paid apps must be repurchased.

So if I just sync the new ipad with my computer everything backed up on it will be sent to the new iPad? Sounds like a simple solution. No problems using the two iPads with one account?

No problems here. But I did see that some people had issues with the "restore" option to transfer their old settings to the new:
http://scripting.com/stories/2011/03...adArrived.html

My Angry BirdsHD and Angry Birds Seasons (and Dungeon 2 HD) transferred over with my old levels and progress intact. I had to re-enter my login/passwords for some apps, but oddly, not all.

But if you are giving your wife the new iPad 2, and keeping yours, she can also just set it up completely new, and then use your iTunes account to re-download the apps you already purchased, without extra charge. Probably the smoothest path.

I think this is the route we will take. She doesn't want some of the items I have, especially games, and there are a few I can delete from the old one (cooking and painting) that I don't use. She uses facebook and with the camera that should work well for her. Thanks, again.

I am waiting for the PlayBook too, since as announced, will be able to use the internet connection from BBerry phone for web browsing.
I just happen to have a BBerry with an unlimited web, though not the latest model, and this will be a nice addition.

So far...so good... restore from backup and only weird thing is that was not able to restore Nook.

I don't use Safari, so I'm assuming the rest will be the same.

It does feel different and better, kind of like a Kindle DXG on your hands. But the weight different is not huge. You will notice though, if you had the previous model.

The edges are softer now and rounded .... really feels better when holding ...
How do you like reading on an iPad? Or you're not using it for reading ebooks? Just wondering....

Hi bcgirl,

I'm using it for PDFs, comics and Magazines. For reading, I prefer the Kindle.
