They might be girl spiders rather than boy spiders. How about "Cynthia"?

True, but not the sort of female you'd want for your mother-in-law

I wonder if Alexander can make it show up in the list as Charlotte, instead of Yahoo! Slurp Spider ....

I like Yahoo! Slurp Spider. Makes it look like it's having sex with the site.

Back to the thread, The Montréal "La Presse" mentions the URL of a site that has the 50 first chapters of "The Deathly Hallows". I will not mention nor go to that site. It's one in the Neatherlands that apparently was shut down a month ago.

It's my understanding that the files now being passed around are digital photos of book pages. This would seem to increase the likelihood of their authenticity.
If they ever find out which bookstore/library/etc. opened the box early, someone will lose their job and face charges, but honestly, I'm surprised it took this long for something like this to surface. Now the only question is whether the OCR'd PDF shows up before the official release date of the paper copy. My money would be on the "yes" side of that bet. HP fans are... um... highly enthusiastic, and this is their last chance to beat the record for delta between paper and pirate ebook with a new HP release. This message is not intended to promote or condone piracy. As I've said before, my copy is on order. |

Since my internet is severly restricted right now (although my friendly neighbour is letting me use his connection via WiFi right now) I'll have to buy the book in the bookshop anyway...but I like seeing authors getting paid anyway...even though I resent the fact that they don't want us to get digital editions...
![]() btw...that apparently real photoraphed version of the the newest HP is supposedly too low quality to be OCR'd easily...so I guess the very impatient ones will read it from the jpg files (or whatever format they come in) and worsen their eyesight and the rest will wait until Friday/Saturday. |

My dilemma: I ordered the book from Amazon Canada, even though I live in the US, to get the recycled paper edition. Since I don't live in Canada, Amazon won't be delivering the book to me on the release date. It will come later, possibly a week later. But I know the photo'd version is available now...

It´s a digital copy of the book. You can see the book in great detail (so it seems real) in several jpg´s.
The main problem is that the resolution is not that great - you can read the text but it is not really fun (and I doubt that an OCR program would catch that right). Better to get the real book and support the writer. |

The photos do seem real and there is a copy in a pretty good formatted PDF that is chapters 1-10 and that has been compared to the photos and it seems like the real thing.

Apparently they're using old-fashioned OCR -- human eyeballs, reading the jpg files posted earlier, and typing the text in. I am not, of course, supporting piracy, but I have to be impressed with their tenacity. Or obsession....
For those wondering if this is the real deal, the jpgs show the chapter head illustrations. I find it hard to believe that anyone could duplicate Mary GrandPré's art style that closely. I checked my Amazon.ca order: Quote:

10 chapters? The version I downloaded weeks ago has 34 chapters on 659 pages. Unfortunately I have not much time to read, and besides that I haven't read the 6th book yet ...
