wvcherrybomb linked to these over in the thread I made about Kindle games. I think they look pretty good and might opt for this over the DecalGirl ones. I never knew choosing a skin would be such hard work. I already know what light and case I want but the skin is a whole lot harder to choose.

I'm soo pleased to see we can get the decalgirl skins from Amazon UK now. Only problem is that everyone in here seems to be recommending the matt versions, and I don't think these are http://www.amazon.co.uk/Kindle-Skin-...5&sr=8-1-fkmr0.

Just one obvious question - will the kindle still be able to attach to a lighted cover with the skin on?

I have the high gloss skin and don't really have a problem with it, though should I decide to get another one I will probably go for the matte as well, since it does hide fingerprints. If I were you, I would check with skinsforconsoles, the company selling the DecalGirl skins in the UK Amazon store in your link, to see if the matte skin is an option. Since it is an option that DecalGirl offers, I should think skinsforconsoles should also offer it, though there doesn't appear to be a way to choose it when you order from them. Maybe you have to put in a special request??

The skins are very thin so should not interfere at all with the use of a cover.

Thanks Holly - I'll have a look at skinsforconsoles. Otherwise I may try ordering direct from the US.

Marware Sportsgrip

Hi Guys,

I got a Marware Sportsgrip this weekend, and I'm pretty happy about it I'm posting it here in the skins section, but I apologize if this is the wrong section, since most of the pictures posted here are regarding decorative skins.

This skin is more of a protective skin, with a nice, grippy feel. Almost everything that can be covered is covered. Even though the page buttons and the volume buttons are completely covered, they are very easy to click, and I think that the skin actually makes the buttons quieter. My only complaint is that it's picked up several white specs, but it's still pretty awesome. Oh and it's pretty expensive.

I've also reviewed the product on Amazon. My review on Amazon is a lot more detailed.

Ive considered getting a rubber or silicon skin like that but I was afraid it wouldnt fit in my cover. Then again, getting that would kind of take away the need for said cover.

$20 isnt bad I dont think. Do you think itll be safe if you were to drop it or is a cover still needed?

I feel that my Kindle is well protected in my skin. In fact, in some of the reviews, people complain that the silicone is too thick

I wouldn't say that it's too thick, but it's not exactly thin either. Note that you CAN use the skin in elastic band covers, but not hinge, railed, or snap-on. Well, at least it fits in my elastic band cover. But then again, my cover is also compatible with a Kobo (which is larger than a Kindle)

no, this is the perfect place for it! I had a silicone skin for my first kindle that I quit using. my main concern with this skin, just like the silicone, is what about screen protection? I dump my kindle in a purse or a backpack without a second thought in my cover. I'm going to assume that there is not any screen protection?

yeah, it won't fit in a cover afaik. I'm pretty sure it would fit in a sleeve though

I mainly keep it around the house, but I occasionally take my Kindle with me, so I've designated a compartment in my backpack specifically for my Kindle. That way, I don't have to worry about the rest of my stuff damaging it when I travel.

I've also purchased a 3-pack screen protector. After the first two yielded unsatisfactory results, I stored the third one away as a spare. I prefer reading without glare and air bubbles

yeah, I went the screen protector route with my first one, not only did it cause issues, I can't see how it would help at all. the screen of the kindle does not seem to lend itself to scratches.

my purse is kind of one of those "hobo" bags; one great gaping hole, so I need a cover there. when I've skied with it, it goes between the water bag and the back padding of my camelback so it probably has some good protection there, but it wouldn't be protected in a twisting sort of impact with just the silicone.

if the silicone works for you, awesome! I think some of us feel we need a tad more protection when out and about

I haven't obtained a skin yet. For now, I just trimmed the end off the adhesive clear plastic sheet that came on the Kindle (front and back) when it was shipped, and have been using that clear strip as a makeshift "skin" over the keyboard. It's not ideal because the plastic does tend to smudge easily, but it's not a bad working solution.

Part of the difficulty is not knowing whether the letters ARE likely to rub off the keys. My Kindle 3 is a Wi-Fi model, graphite colour (no other one exists for the Wi-Fi!), and was shipped in mid-Jan 2011. It has matte, slightly textured keys. I don't use them a huge amount, and I do know QWERTY, but I can't say I've memorised the Del, Sym, and other special keys 100%... so the prospect of their wearing off does worry me.

Last edited by chamekke; 01-31-2011 at 03:22 AM. Reason: left out that I was using the skin for the keyboard alone

They're evil! They sell it for $24.99; that's 1 penny less than $25. So I may be saving a penny, but I'm losing much more on shipping.
