I agree with the views re doing both. The lack of colour on Kindle is a bit annoying, the fact that you need to charge it up all the time and the lack of a touch screen are negative points. The beauty is that you don't need to carry physical copies of books, which is an advantage and very environmentally friendly! However, even though I have a Kindle, nothing beats browsing a bookstore and checking out physical copies of books. It's just not the same downloading it on Kindle!

Overall the ebook reader experience is quite good I think, but I have to say that I do still miss the paper - even the big heavy tome. With a paper book there is an experience that goes with the medium. An experience of passing from the beginning to the end that is so literal with a paper book. Many of my favourite books get purchased in hardcover and so there is also a sense of "special" that goes with reading them (the very awkward size and weight imparts its own element to the experience). With paperbacks there is that constant feel in your hands that varies from book to book. Each book becomes a friend, each different with its own history.
Yes, I understand what you mean here.

But you know what? I've found, after almost a year with a reader, that when I open it or finish a book on it and go back to the front, that I have a feeling of being 'in' my library with it now. That all the books I love are there, and just as when you open a book and lose yourself in it and the physical book goes away, when I open my reader the physical reader goes away, and I 'feel' I'm in my own cozy library. I wish DecaGirl would make a skin with a fireplace, lol!

I read a book for the first time in about 6 months and was annoyed at having to hold it open and how much heavier it was than my ereader. It was then that I realized how much I love my reader.

Last time I read a paper book, I kept looking for the button that would increase the font size.

The old friend passing? Nope, never felt that way. I immediately met his reincarnation, and all was well with the world.

I don't have an ereader device yet, but so far the last three books I've read in PDF format off my laptop and have enjoyed them.

Thanks for the welcome.

I agree. I downloaded the Kindle software for my laptop and reading through it hurt my eyes. The PDF version was a welcome relief.

I find paper books preferable when eating - ebooks are awkward for me.

I'm going to have to agree with you. With print books I need both hands to hold the pages down and while I turn them. Not such a problem with ebooks.

I bought a paper book last week for the first time since I had my kindle (and ipad). The only reason I did that was it's not available in ebook and I really wanted to read it. Roger Zelazny's The Amber Chronicles. All it one edition, man the print is small....
