People (women) have probably been using something like it for ages. Maybe now the marketing has caught up with fiction. It's good: Lots of good ideas come from fiction. I am still waiting for my Dick Tracy phone/watch.

Well, I just had to buy a new and slightly larger purse so I could slip my new DXG into it

. It was, though, really hard finding one that fit it without being GARGANTUAN.

I always think it's kind of funny when somebody is reviewing a reading device and declares something to the effect of "USELESS! It is far too big to fit in a pocket!" Umm, about half the population doesn't *use* pockets to carry their stuff. For every woman who doesn't carry a purse I bet you there's a man who uses a briefcase, messenger bag, backpack, or "European carry-all".

I have periodically tried to scale down my purse with limited success. Stuff always seems to add up--a pack of tissue here, lip balm there, eye drops seasonally. Bingo daubers the other night (although they were transient occupants). My kids are in the too-old-for-a-diaper-bag-but-too-young-to-carry-their-own-crap stage, too, so there's spare socks and confiscated contraband from time to time, too.

ok, the first time around I chalked it up to Aussie slang. I;ve read a LOT of Heinlein... I give up!

This is my train friend Sabrina, photo taken yesterday, in the train. That bag is fantastic: she has it since she went to law school (I think about 10 years ago). Must be SS's cousin?

this is my purse (tote bag) and what it contains. 5 minutes ago.
The little pouches help in keeping things organized. There is one for writing (there is a small torch attached to a lighter even if I gave up smoking, note liquorice sticks that help in fighting back the urge), one for the earplugs and one for survival. This one contains:

Sewing kit
Medical tape
3 lip care sticks including the only one that works for cold sores (got it in Canada)
pills for back emergency (methacarbamol)
emergency painkiller (2)
small metal box with solid perfume (verbena), when on trains or metro there is need I smear it under the nose and smile in face of perils.

Dear ladies, in favor of my friend Sabrina and her beautiful (oh, how beautiful) purse of real piton skin, that is in fantastic shape after many years of intense use by a bank lawyer mother of two, I can say that she bought it from an artisan when she was still a student some 10 years ago.
