For me, even though I got a Kindle 3, I totally get where pbook lovers are coming from.

Typography on the Kindle is bad. Period. No exceptions. That's not even taking into account books which have obviously been OCRed with little editing. Then there are files which drift between type sizes for no apparent reason or have indents in the wrong places, hard returns where they shouldn't be etc.
Huh! Not a big old fan of the Kindle 3 but typography seems the same as the Sony Prs 600 -350.
Depends on the book. GIGO

I am irresistibly reminded of the title of one of Anthony Powell's books in the Proustian series A Dance to the Music of Time. It was called Books do Furnish a Room.

When people say "I just like the feel of a book in my hand" they really mean that reading is not only about getting some information but a process that should be comfortable and entertaining. We think that we all agree about that.

I already mentioned in another thread how proofreaders work only on paper because practice has shown again and again that working on LCD screens means that a lot of mistakes will be missed. Reading on the screen is imperceptibly more stressful. The imperceptible part is why many people may seemingly irrationally prefer paper books without really telling the actual reason.

E-ink technology is a breakthrough in reading comfort and very close to paper quality therefore many people have switched to e-books without looking back. But at this moment we don't know yet how it works for all types of people. For some it may be even better than paper prints due to adjustable font size but others may perceive some inadequacies in other aspects that are hard to measure.

Exactly what I think also. When reading a book on my Gen3 I really miss this association. I also miss a cover that can be used to remember the book.

I am hoping that the user interfaces on e-readers will try to keep this sense of a book as an object. It could probably be done by some clever user interface that we will se sooner or later on tablets (I think you need colour and a fast screen update and a fast processor).

A year ago I would have told you that I had no interest in the cover.

But since I got my jetBook Lite for Christmas I have come to appreciate the artwork of hardcovers from the 1920s and paperbacks of the 1950s and 1960s.

Each of these three decades had their own styles for popular fiction, and I find that being reminded of them adds to my experience.

My sister is exactly like that. She reads far more than me but whenever i get her to try my ebook reader, she will keep saying paperbacks are better and easier to access even if ebook stores are only a click away.

She primarily rents paperbacks from a local store here which makes ebook readers not so attractive since i don't know any ebook stores that let you rent ebooks for only a dollar or two. She's not into re-reading of books so buying an ebook is excessive. Library ebook offerings aren't as attractive to her either. Unless the ebook industry takes off here in a bigger way, i don't think she'll consider an ebook reader anytime soon.

Hello everyone!

I'm an avid reader. If I didn't have at least 2 unread books on hand, I would get anxious. I have tons of books in this house --probably over 1,000. The thing is, I cannot throw books away. I have to actually OWN the books I read, and I won't read the same book twice, with one exception: the All Creatures Great and Small series. Yes, I'm a bit bizarre. I purchased a Kindle 3 two weeks ago out of sheer necessity, really. I have no.more.room.for.books. I was initially very nervous about missing the "feel of a book in my hands", but honestly, I have adapted very well. However, nothing electronic will ever replace the atmosphere of literature, learning, and coziness that a well-stocked library/bookcase gives a home, imho. Just my .02

Huh? OP seemed to be saying he could not see a common ground for discussion.
Apart from your post not meaning much that I can see perhaps you meant bias instaed of bios?
I must say your personal bias seems a lot cruder and ruder. More like a personal attack.

I don't. Books are too heavy and cannot be read without holding them. The kindle/ebook reader can be put onto a surface and read. Plus only having text on one screen/page is more comfortable for positioning.
