Winter may not help. The longest time a fire burned in that swamp was three years.

Of course, no one expects the current fires to last that long. Fire-fighting techniques have no doubt improved somewhat since then.

Heat wave. The Chicago Trib's weather guy says it's breaking 150 year old records for this date. Probably to be followed (though not immediately) by a brief autumn and harsh winter. (My optimism is broken today).

It's been cold for the time of year here. During the day 17-18C at night much colder. I just switched on the heater in my bedroom because it was only 15C and with all the rain lately everything is very clammy.

Tornado Warning for the county now. The dogs are confined in the central hallway, with us in rooms off the hall. Spot isn't happy since he knows it's always safer on the other side of the door.

I actually got to wear long pants yesterday when NOT on my motorcycle! We had genuine cool weather for once! Unfortunately, it's back to being hot today.

Wow, crazy afternoon here. Tornado warnings were popping up everywhere -- as soon as one was lifted, another one was issued. We had a Labor Day cookout at my sister's house. The grill is on the covered porch, so the rain wasn't a problem. The problem was having to stay glued to the weather coverage all afternoon, and hearing the tornado sirens go off multiple times. At one point I just went ahead and took Mom into the bathroom (no basement there) and made her sit until some of the warnings had passed. Luckily we had no damage, although some of the counties north of Atlanta had a lot of homes damaged. Shimarenda, how did you fare out in your area? I know Athens had some pretty severe storms.

We're supposed to get your weather tomorrow - when the remnants of TS Lee collide with an incoming cold front!

Shimarenda has not reappeared yet - hopefully just a power outage!

We'll be having our first autumn storm this week. Some say its' the left over from Irene, others that it's a storm front from Scotland. But all agree that there'll be no difference from the rest of this summer..
