On a Kindle book?? I've never seen sales tax on kindle books. Wierd!

Perhaps Amazon doesn't have a physical presence in the area you live?

I know here in Texas, I've been getting taxed on Kindle books for several years.

I thought I read somewhere that they were collecting for all 50 states now - apparently that's not true (yet)...

I think maybe not all states require tax on ebooks or digital items.

ETA: In Michigan, Amazon charges me tax for physical items, but not ebooks.

I just did a quick look at my order confirmation emails an I have not been charged tax on ebooks or items purchased through the marketplace only on items purchased from Amazon.

Inspector Hobbs and the Bones is 99p on Amazon UK at present. The other 3 books are cheap but beyond my normal 99p limit (I do have the first from a previous sale)

That's most likely it - OH charges on pretty much everything now...

I bought three books the past two days. One was .07, one was .99, and one was 1.99. I was charged tax only on the 1.99 book. I'm in Pennsylvania.

That suggests that Pennsylvania's tax on books is 0.5% .... half a penny per dollar. So it only shows up when the cost is high enough to round it to a full penny.

Well the state decides WHAT gets taxed, and maybe the minimum and rounding rules, but there are 10000 separate jurisdictions in the U.S. that affect the tax RATE...

Google charges me tax on non-agency publishers only.

I just checked and the $1.99 book had 12¢ tax.
