$15.96 -- Old Records Never Die -- Eric Spitznagel/ Ramiz Monsef --> 8.6 hrs/ R-4.2 --> memoir

Quote:
Old Records Never Die: One Man’s Quest for His Vinyl and His Past

Whispersync: the Audible book is $3.47, if you own or borrow the Kindle ebook ($9.99)

High Fidelity meets Killing Yourself to Live in this memoir of one man's search for his lost record collection.

As he finds himself within spitting distance of middle age, journalist Eric Spitznagel feels acutely the loss of...something. Freedom? Maybe. Coolness? Could be. The records he sold in a financial pinch? Definitely. To find out for sure, he sets out on a quest to find the original vinyl artifacts from his past. Not just copies. The exact same records: the Bon Jovi record with his first girlfriend's phone number scrawled on the front sleeve, the KISS Alive II he once shared with his little brother, the Replacements' Let It Be he's pretty sure, 20 years later, would still smell like weed.

As he embarks on his hero's journey, he reminisces about the actual records, the music, and the people he listened to it with - old girlfriends, his high school pals, and, most poignantly, his father and his young son. He explores the magic of music and memory as he interweaves his adventures in record culture with questions about our connections to our pasts, whether we can ever recapture them, and whether we would want to if we could.

4.5 (20) at Amazon; 3.66 (many) at GoodReads, for the ebook. But this part of the blurb makes it a deal-breaker for me:

"In Drinking Water, Duke professor James Salzman shows how drinking water highlights the most pressing issues of our time - from globalization and social justice to terrorism and climate change - and how humans have been wrestling with these problems for centuries."

Now I'm convinced: people can take anything and politicize it.

Book Description (Amazon):
“God, please help me…another game of Candy Land…”

Quite a few dads spend time with their kids. However, many have no clue what their kids really need.

Enter author Jay Payleitner, veteran dad of five, who’s also struggled with how to build up his children’s lives. His
52 Things Kids Need from a Dad combines straightforward features with step-up-to-the-mark challenges men will appreciate:

a full year’s worth of focused, doable ideas—one per week, if desired
uncomplicated ways to be an example, like “kiss your wife in the kitchen”
tough, frank advice, like “throw away your porn”
And, refreshingly…

NO exhaustive (and exhausting) lists of “things you should do”
NO criticism of dads for being men and acting like men
Dads will feel respected and empowered, and gain confidence to initiate activities that build lifelong positives into their kids. Great gift or men’s group resource!

Amazing Whispersync Deal on this Audie-Nominated Romance Novel by Rosalind James!

The Whispersync Deal of $1.99 is 88% less than the price of the audiobook alone at Audible ($16.95).

I'm not "into" romance novels, but it look like this one is a popular one, too, based upon the large number (1,057) of reviews of the ebook and audiobook (639).

Title: Just This Once (Escape to New Zealand Book 1).
Genre: Fiction (Romance).
Author(s): Rosalind James.
Price: $1.99 ($0.00 ebook (marked down) + $1.99 Whispersync audio).
Regular Price of Audio, by Itself, at Audible: $16.95.
Ebook Rating/Number of Reviews: 4.3 stars/1,057 reviews (Amazon).
Audio Rating/Number of Ratings: 4.1/639 ratings.
Pages/Audio Length: 343/8 hours and 38 minutes.
Narrator(s): Claire Bocking.

Amazon URL (can get the whole Whispersync deal here): https://www.amazon.com/Just-This-Onc.../dp/B0094KJ70G.
Comments: This book was a 2015 Audie nominee for Best Romance Novel.
Book Description (Amazon):
Everyone needs to be rescued sometimes.
Everyone but Hannah Montgomery, that is. She just needs a vacation. Three weeks in New Zealand to sort out her life, figure out what she wants, seems just right. Oh, and to relax. She should definitely put that on the agenda. She certainly isn’t looking for a sexy fling with a professional rugby player, no matter how attractive he is. Hannah doesn’t do casual. But maybe just this once ...

As much as he’s shared with Hannah, Drew Callahan has kept one very big secret: that he's the captain of the All Blacks, New Zealand's international rugby team, not to mention the best-known rugby player on earth. And learning the truth, now that she’s back home again, has made Hannah warier than ever. Drew knows that she’s right for him. But how can he convince her to let down her guard enough to explore what they could have together?

Note: This romance, like New Zealand, contains some steam. If that isn't your cuppa, you may want to visit another country ... er, book.

$2.95 -- Broken Grace -- EC Diskin/ multiple --> 9.4 hrs/ R-4.2 --> suspense

Quote:
Whispersync: the Audible book is $1.99, if you own or borrow the Kindle ebook ($4.99)

On an icy winter's day in southwest Michigan, Grace Abbot wakes up as the survivor of a car crash. But she's left with a traumatic brain injury and a terrifying reality: she can't remember anything.

Left in the care of her sister, Grace returns to the family's secluded old farmhouse to recover - but within an hour of her return, the police arrive. Grace's boyfriend has been murdered. Without any memory, Grace has no alibi.

With suspicion weighing heavily on her and flashes of memory returning, Grace searches for clues to her past. But with every glimpse, her anxiety grows. There is something about the house, her family, her childhood...perhaps the accident isn't the only reason she can't remember. Are the dark recesses of her mind hiding something even more sinister and terrifying than she could ever imagine?

And someone is watching. Someone willing to kill again to protect a secret.

The Hidden --> Krewe of Hunters (book 17 of 20)

Whispersync: the Audible book is $3.49, if you own or borrow the Kindle ebook ($6.99)

Can the same killer strike again - a hundred and fifty years later?

Estes Park, Colorado, is a place of serenity. But it wasn't always so serene. Shortly after the Civil War, Nathan Kendall and his wife were murdered there, leaving behind a young son. The crime was never solved.

Now...historian Scarlet Barlow is working at a small museum attached to a B and B, the same building where that murder occurred. She recently came to Colorado, reeling after her divorce from FBI agent Diego McCullough. Diego - who's just been asked to join the Krewe of Hunters, a unit dealing with "unusual" situations....

When Scarlet unwittingly takes pictures of people who've been murdered - just like the Kendalls a hundred and fifty years before - the police look at her with suspicion. Then the museum's statues of historic people, including Nathan Kendall, begin to talk to her, and she knows it's time to call her ex-husband. Diego heads to Estes Park, determined to solve the bizarre case that threatens Scarlet's life - and to reunite with the woman he never stopped loving.

Thanks.

There appear to be a huge number of people who read the posts, but they are not official, card-carrying MobileReaders. They have no voice, because they never have become members with posting privileges. I'm sure that there are many of those who appreciate the posts (well, of the ebooks, audiobooks, and other media, anyway, maybe not of the banter. ha), but we never hear from them.

Confessions of a Scary Mommy: An Honest and Irreverent Look at Motherhood - The Good, The Bad, and the Scary

Whispersync: the Audible book is $1.95, if you own or borrow the Kindle ebook ($10.93)

In a culture that idealizes motherhood, it’s scary to confess that, in your house, being a mother is beautiful and dirty and joyful and frustrating all at once. Admitting that it’s not easy doesn’t make you a bad mom; at least, it shouldn’t. When Jill Smokler was first home with her small children, she thought her blog would be something to keep friends and family updated. To her surprise, she hit a chord in the hearts of mothers everywhere. As other women shared their stories, Jill realized she wasn’t alone in her feelings of exhaustion and imperfection.

Burn for Me --> Hidden Legacy (book 1 of 2)

Whispersync: the Audible book is $12.99, if you own or borrow the Kindle ebook ($1.99)

Number-one New York Times best-selling author Ilona Andrews launches a brand-new Hidden Legacy series, in which one woman must place her trust in a seductive, dangerous man who sets off an even more dangerous desire.

Nevada Baylor is faced with the most challenging case of her detective career - a suicide mission to bring in a suspect in a volatile situation. Nevada isn't sure she has the chops. Her quarry is a Prime, the highest rank of magic user, who can set anyone and anything on fire.

Then she's kidnapped by Connor "Mad" Rogan - a darkly tempting billionaire with equally devastating powers. Torn between wanting to run and wanting to surrender to their overwhelming attraction, Nevada must join forces with Rogan to stay alive.

Rogan's after the same target, so he needs Nevada. But she's getting under his skin, making him care about someone other than himself for a change. And, as Rogan has learned, love can be as perilous as death, especially in the magic world.

Resource Revolution: How to Capture the Biggest Business Opportunity in a Century

Whispersync: the Audible book is $1.99, if you own or borrow the Kindle ebook ($1.99)

What do shale gas, Elon Musk’s Tesla, and the global apparel chain Zara share in common? In Resource Revolution, management experts Stefan Heck and Matt Rogers describe how each in its own way exemplifies a resource revolution - a use of natural resources so effective it defies conventional wisdom and enables breakthrough performance where others see only limits and shortcomings.

Resource Revolution shows how to take what is being seen as a worldwide crisis and turn it into the biggest business opportunity of the past 100 years. The rapid urbanization of a new 2.5-billion-person middle class in Asia will create an unprecedented demand for oil, steel, land, food, water, cement, and other commodities over the next two decades. Heck and Rogers explore the ways in which innovators, including startups and global leaders from Cree to GE, have answered the challenge with practical steps to guide managers everywhere.
