I can report that NCCU and UNC also felt it. When i got home last night, my cat was a freaked out mess and a number of my books had fallen over on the shelves. Didnt feel a thing at the office though. Though by the end of the day, half the paralegals were swearing their monitors were shaking off their desks and other such Chicken Little-esque nonesense. pooh's avatar is perfect for the way our state's populace is behaving right now.

Like headless chickens?
We had a quake not too long ago (3.something). I completely missed it somehow. I thought there was a farming machine thingie driving down the road... To get back to the weather. I've heard it isn't cold (can't really check), but it's gray. And even more gray than that... |

Latest tracking map puts Irene on or just off the NC coast:
![]() They've started evacuating the barrier islands. If Irene hits them directly as a category 3 storm, they will be wiped clean. We'll probably have a day or so of gusty rain only [fingers crossed]. |

We had a category three earthquake here a few years ago. The trains shunting empty coal wagons shook the town more. In fact the spin cycle on the washing machine needs upgrading to category three.

I think that the media played the Japanese tsunami for all it was worth, ran out of headless chickens, and so had to trump up some new mega-disaster. Sorry East Coast, it's your turn... Gotta sell them newspapers somehow! Stitchawl |

To all those in the path of Hurricane Irene: Please be safe and take no chances!
We are getting the first of the rain bands this morning, but the eye is supposed to stay 200 miles offshore. We are forecsted to have heavy rain, possible tornadoes, and rip tides. |

![]() Thankfully, a full panic has not set it, though evacuations of the Outer Banks and barrier islands are continuing. |

Our danger level has been down-graded to gusty winds & rain - if Irene moves fast enough, we might not even get any rain!!!!!
If the course doesn't change significantly, the Outer Banks and coastline are going to get hammered ... |

We are well on the dry side (by a thousand miles) of Irene but because it is so strong, we are told that it will be pushing lots of hot, dry air this way and we will reach the mid-100's with 0% chance of rain through Tuesday. So what else is new? We've been in the low 100's all month. And, except for a few sprinkles this morning, we haven't had any rain in forever.

Now Irene is tracking more westerly - and may make landfall in NC after all - good thing I hadn't stopped in my preparations for power outages.

Looks like we'll get the brunt of whatever we're going to get here around 2 AM Sunday. By that time I'll have been at work for 7 hours with 5 to go. Fortunately, I should be able to pull my car inside the building—unless earlier crews have filled that area with things they don't want to see blown away. Normally, the area inside the roll-up door is large enough for two cars, and there will be two of us working. Leaving work might be a bit trickier. The streets outside are notorious for flooding.
