Depends what part of Ireland the codes worked in I suppose, the North or the Republic,

Certainly the Contest codes don't work in Aus, India, Singapore, Hong Kong etc

But you only need to travel to the UK US or CA to use them.

It doesn't matter where you are in the world but what your address is. Is the person in Ireland using an Irish address or is he using an address from UK, US or Canada?

Previously you didn't have to change your address to use the codes. I have changed to a US address to buy some books which weren't available in Europe but I really don't want to make a habit of it because it violates the terms and conditions and they could remove those books if they wanted. Plus it costs me a lot extra when not paying in Euro because my bank has a fixed lower limit transaction fee so even if a books cost £.99, I still have to pay an extra €0.70 or more if the price increases.

Is this some new development, or has this been going on for some time (in which case I had not noticed it before)?

Thanks to you and others who mentioned the possibility of getting a refund. I don't want a refund for this book, or any of the other ones. I want my books! That's the reason that I bought them. I'm sure that I'll end up using the desktop app and obok, that you mentioned. A Mobilereader sent me a PM telling me about a plugin for Calibre, or something like that, that might make the job easier, I'm going to look into that.
