I'm glad it is cooling down for y'all finally. Has it been a record breaking summer for your area?

We had a big rainstom a couple of nights ago. Lots of vivid lightning. In my area, they say we got 3 to 4 inches. The lake is full all the way up to the grass. I hope the "extreme drought" description is no longer true.

Air 27. Water 24. Clear sky. No wind. The shadow under the stone pines is perfumed. Waiting for coffee, after a lunch of gazpacho, mixed salad and cold chicken. Late lunch, at 3. Now a bit of siesta, then a big decision ahead of us: beach again or swimming pool?

It was so cool this morning when I stepped outside! I actually gave a little shiver of delight!

First day of school here, so my early morning tranquil walk was more like a carnival. Cars, school buses, little children, teenagers (I live near a couple of schools.) It was entertaining, but as the weather gets cooler I may move my walk until later in the morning when everybody is finished scrambling around!

I woke up this morning thinking I was in a Balsam Fir tree forest! I brought home several different Balsam Fir 'smellies,' boxes of incense, scented candles, and little 'pillows' stuffed with Balsam Fir leaf tips. I even bought the little log cabin incense burner. Light a stick, set it inside, and watch the balsam fir smoke rise out of the chimney!

For my wife it was almost overpowering. She's never been camping in a fir wooded campsite. For me it was like waking up in the middle of a grand backpacking trip through the New England woods. For some reason the humidity inside the house was just enough to cause all the smells to intensify. I love it! She's ready to move to a hotel room...

Rain, rain, more rain (sigh!!!) Yes, we live next to great big desert, but I'd like just a few days of non-rain to get some gardening done. But I am sure I'll be saying the opposite in summer when we are all baking in the heat - and saying "when is it going to rain?"

Balsam fir and Blue Spruce are two of the most popular Xmas trees in New England (and probably other places too) and I have been sitting at the computer typing with one hand while holding one of the Balsam fir pillows to my nose. I spent soooo many nights in the woods, sometimes (before it became un-ecologically correct) sleeping on Balsam bough beds under my sleeping bag. I was an avid backpack until my 40's when I moved to Asia, and always preferred the smell of Balsam to all others in the woods.
Balsam under the sleeping bag
Drinking Spruce tea and chewing Spruce sap 'gum'
Listening to the crackle and pop of Pine logs in the fire.
The occasional skunk passing by... These are the best smells in the world... other than fresh bread.

Well I could appreciate some slightly warmer weather. Currently 20°C in our house and I am wearing purple kitty flannelette pyjama top and quilted parka i bought in Melbourne 18 years ago. And sox. Only undies and no pyjama pants due to the warmness of the weather, although parka behaves like a mini dress, so no perving!

once it warms up to 27°C it will be perfect! Not yet though because pool is still under repair and empty.

COOL this morning! 63 F - and low humidity. Opened all doors & windows - kitty noses in full sniff mode! Highs in the 80's F for a while! Dare to dream! I may have to retire my avatar!

My only experience with skunks is the TV version. *Big Smile* holding my nose, even if they are passing by on TV.
