Live in Harmony with your TV

The Harmony hub now works directly with Alexa-which means you can now use your voice to turn your TV on and off or jump to your favorite channel. The Harmony hub also lets you control thousands of entertainment devices like your audio system, Amazon Fire TV, or Xbox. Learn more by going to the Skills section of the Alexa App and searching for the Harmony skill.

To order a Harmony hub, just ask, “Alexa, order Harmony hub.” If you already have a hub, enable the Harmony skill and once you’ve gone through the set-up process, just ask:

* "Alexa, turn on the TV."
* "Alexa, turn on Comedy Central."

Pass. I already have my TV, cable TV box, Fire TV box, Blu-Ray player, and Dot connected together via my Sony soundbase. I've used Logitech mice and keyboards for years, and nearly every one of them was quirky, to say the least. Logitech is notorious for crappy drivers. I cannot imagine trying to get a kluge device from Logitech to play nice with all that equipment and actually work. With my cable TV remote, pressing the ON button turns on the cable box, TV, and soundbar. I'm thinking that trying to use Logitech's hub will likely be a major fail. The thing about super duper programmable remotes is that they always seem to not work with at least one of your devices.

My home entertainment system:

* my TV is an old-school CRT. I use the built-in speaker.
* my stereo is my Echo.

I started up my free trial of music unlimited. There is no one in the room stop my Slayer marathon. It is rocking in here!

It's cool cuz I told Alexa to play the album title by the artist. She began with the title track, and now continues to play every track on the album. Loving it!

My free trial ends soon. At that time, I'll subscribe to Echo Unlimited for $4/ month. I have no need for that much music on other devices.

I think I'll do that, too, that's a good deal.

Listening to all this music means I'm not likely to finish either of the 2 audio books I started today. (I usually try to finish everything I have started before a new month begins). Ah well, onto Metallica now.

Anyone having issues with sorting your music library on the Alexa app? I hit genre and it shows some holiday music but there is other genres mixed in.

I'm on the verge of throwing Alexa at the wall. She just will not recognise the name of any playlist I create in either Spotify or Amazon Prime Music. I just tried creating a playlist called "test" in Prime Music, Alexa heard me say "Alexa play test playlist from Prime Music" but played Classic Pop Relaxing Drive! I mean, I may not have the clearest enunciation, but how is that possible?

IIRC, there is some sort of voice training thing you can do in the Alexa app. Might that help?

Thanks. But, not available on my Alexa app - searching, it looks like it might be available in the US app but not the UK

Experiencing Music Unlimited on my Echo makes me question my need/desire for a Dot. I can just unplug it and carry it from room to room. Not having unlimited on the Dot *unless I want to pay more* makes the value of the Dot less appealing.

Here is the link to the Alexa Voice Training web page for info. Note that it only works on Echo devices and the Tap. I'm not sure which devices are included by the statement "Echo devices".

Voice Training

Use Voice Training in the Alexa app to improve the speech recognition on your Alexa device.

Note: You can only use Voice Training with Echo devices and Amazon Tap.

During a Voice Training session, say each of the 25 different phrases in the app to your Alexa device. Your device processes every phrase you say, even if you don't finish a session. For best results:

• Speak normally to your Alexa device.
• Sit or stand where you normally speak to your Alexa device.
• If you have a voice remote, do not use it during Voice Training.

To start a Voice Training session:

1. Open the Alexa app.
2. Open the left navigation panel, and then select Settings.
3. Select Voice Training.
4. Select Start Session.
5. Speak the phrase in the Alexa app, and then select Next.
   
   Tip: To repeat a phrase, select Pause, and then Repeat Phrase.
   
6. When you reach the end of your session, select Complete.
   
   Tip: If you need to end your session at any time, select Pause, and then

End session.
