Thanks.
After installing the correct image, the kobo glo hd appears to be booting.
At least after pushing the on/off button for a second the red led switches on
and flashes eight times and the display 'backlight' switches on. And that's it.
The display remains in the 'sleep' state,
so now I am assuming a display problem. Maybe it is time to go shopping
for another kobo. I was reading Ruth Rendell's "End in tears" so that seems
a fitting end...

I have carefully removed the display and it is indeed broken.
I can see several break lines in the glass layer on the back.
A display replacement would cost between $60 and $70.
For 82 euros I can get a refurbished kobo glo hd, so display
replacement is hardly worth it.

I have a lot of friends with their own eReaders. But I had more eBooks than most of my friends. I don't have an external SD and my books were saved on the internal. I bet my own kobo that that my SD was stolen for its contents... Sounds unbelievable but that was my best guess.

Any ideas on how to install the kobo glo file you sent me on a new micro SD? Does it really need just 2gb ones? I already have a 2gb microSD, jus asking.

New Image File Or a Busted Display?
I reviewed this thread and found out that my kobo's screen is probably broken. I tried anything to fix my kobo (except the re-image file one), like holding the light button then sliding or the paperclip one.
Just like what I said before, the internal memory was stolen (from what I think) and was missing. After that, the kobo won't work. It just lights up a blue color then turns off again.
But I noticed that the back of my kobo was forced open, I think. I inspected my kobo last week and noticed that there are some parts that looked like it was broken, which made me think, "I don't think the back part can be opened without forcing it."
This sounds like I would most likely need to buy a new ereader.

Any thoughts?

Hello, My Glo has gone since the last time I installed some patches that don't compatible with the newer FW version. Could I get the original Kobo Glo image, please?...

None of the patches available prevent you from doing a factory reset. Or, reinstalling the firmware update to replace the patched files. Or, sideloading a newer firmware version. So, unless the device is not working at, reimaging the internal SD card is probably overkill.

But, I have sent you a PM with the link to the image.

But, make sure you do a factory reset using the button. It will usually work in situations like this.

My Kobo Glo N613 internal memory 2 gb sandisk not working, 4 gb kingston working android. I remove the sandisk and look at the computer does not work. can I get a root image link to copy another 2 gb kingston

Hi there,

My Kobo Glo has seemed to completely freeze up. It was a refurb, and I wonder if the firmware was dodgy.

Now, I don't get any response from any of the buttons at all, no lights or anything. None of the reset options at all work, no response. No lights when charging either. There is a picture on the standby screen (Steve Jobs interestingly!)

Do you think a SD card image might help? Could I please be sent one? Any other ideas?

From your description, I don't really think reimaging will work. If the power light isn't coming on when you try to turn it on, then odds are it is a different problem. But, it won't hurt to try, so I have sent you a PM with the link to the image.

Other things to try are:
  • Charge it for a couple of days. A lot of people have had seemingly dead Kobo's, left them on charge for a while and came back t find them working.
  • Pull it apart and check connections and the switch. When I've opened my Touch or Glo, I always messed up positioning the switch correctly and have to open it again to fix.
  • If it is a refurb, what is the warranty status? If it is still covered, I would be taking it back.
