A Forest, Darkly by A. G. Slatter is £2 in the UK (Kobo, Amazon)
Quote:
Perfect for fans of Ava Reid and Lucy Holland, this is a page-turning dark fantasy of persecuted witches, snatched children, twisted magic, changelings and the sins that bind.

Set in the multi-award-winning author's acclaimed Sourdough universe, this standalone story sits alongside previous novels, including All the Murmuring Bones and The Briar Book of the Dead.

Deep in the forest lives Mehrab the witch, coping with loneliness in her own strange ways and quietly battling her demons. One evening, a young woman appears on her doorstep seeking shelter, pursued by godhounds who wish to destroy all those practising magic, and Mehrab's solitary existence is disrupted as she teaches the girl how to control her powers. Together they forge a cure for their isolation with heartbreaking consequences...

Meanwhile, in the local village, children begin to disappear, sometimes returning forever changed – or not returning at all. Sinister offerings appear on Mehrab's doorstep, and a dark power pursues her through the trees. As the villagers turn hostile and the godhounds close in, Mehrab finds herself at the centre of a struggle to save the soul of the forest, the life of an old love – and her own new-formed family.

Set in Slatter's bewitching gothic Sourdough universe, this is a haunting, gripping tale written with wit and heart. A book to both savour and devour.

I've been trying to figure out whether they're any good or not...a recommendation from "Booktok" doesn't mean much to me, and is almost an anti-rec, since the kind of stuff I see recommended on #BookTok seems to be shallow dribble.
I enjoyed the first one enough that I also bought the second when I saw it on sale a while ago, but I haven’t read the second, yet. It is YAish, if that puts you off.

Well, once again it looks like Amazon UK ended their sale price, but the Kobo UK is on track for the price you listed. (For me, being a VIP member, it comes to £1.79 [US 2.43]. Still a good price for me.)

Thank you.

Bell, Book, and Murder (The Bast Mysteries) by Rosemary Edghill is $3 in the US (Kobo, Amazon)
An omnibus of Speak Daggers to Her, Book of Moons, The Bowl of Night.
The author died a few weeks ago.
James Davis Nicoll's review of Speak Daggers to Her
The omnibus was $1 for one day in 2023, but it's cheap enough now. Note that individual titles are also available (with nicer covers) but they're full price ATM.

Blurb of the first book:
Quote:
Karen Hightower (aka "Bast") is a single which witch living in Manhattan, working as a freelance graphic designer while reading tarot cards on the side. But when a close friend dies mysteriously, Bast must turn detective to find out why.
Bast's investigation leads her through the cults and covens of New York's occult underground--in search of a killer who may have black magic on his side, in Rosemary Edghill's Speak Daggers to Her.

Hmm. I wonder if they're price matchable at Kobo.

Pollen From A Future Harvest is a novella.

I can confirm this, as I've just bought a book there. You can download DRM-free EPUB and MOBI.

I wouldn't try.
They probably treat it as a store-specific discount, rather than an all-stores price.
They already don't accept "Digital price" discounts on Amazon, because they treat it (perhaps incorrectly) as a discount set by Amazon rather than the publisher in all store fronts.

Anyway, it's better to buy straight from the publisher, than through a storefront. That way, the authors and publishers gets a bigger cut.

An absolute classic fantasy by John Brunner is just £0.99 at Kobo UK (£0.90 for VIP members). It seems to still be full price (£6.99) at Amazon UK.

The Compleat Traveller in Black by John Brunner. A wonderful (& complete) collection of stories about the Traveller in Black, who "had many names, but one nature, and this unique nature made him subject to certain laws not binding upon ordinary persons."

I recommend this book wholeheartedly.

https://www.kobo.com/gb/en/ebook/the...ler-in-black-1

There are also three of John Brunner's SF novels on sale for £0.99 at Amazon UK and price matchable at Kobo UK (if not already changed to £0.99):

Amazon Kobo Total Eclipse
Amazon Kobo The Shockwave Rider
Amazon Kobo The Sheep Look Up

I haven't read these ones, but I'm going to soon.

Ah, this is the Open Road edition. I have the Gateway SF edition. The Gateway edition includes: Imprint of Chaos, Break the Door of Hell, The Wager Lost by Winning, and Dread Empire.

There is also The Things That Are Gods which is included in the Methuen paperback edition I have, and according to Kobo the Open Road edition contains 6 stories not 5 - which is incorrect; there's only 5 in the ToC.

This edition includes all five stories. I've checked the TOC and it has Imprint of Chaos, Break the Door of Hell, The Wager Lost by Winning, The Things That Are Gods, and Dread Empire

I suspect the mention of a sixth story refers to the story that links all the tales together.
