416 pages. So, there'll be lots to listen to.

For the ebook, the ratings at Amazon are a little tepid; the ones at GoodReads are very good. Who do you believe? There are more ratings at GoodReads (45) than at Amazon (27), so all other things being equal, GoodReads' ratings should be a little bit more accurate. All that I can say is research it for yourself. After much aggravation it seems that Overdrive for Win Desktop (not the Win Store OD app) must be installed at the time of download. The .odm file can then be opened and downloaded in full. So I was able to start over with Hitchhiker and Feed and get the full downloads, but Dorian Gray has expired so the .odm I got on 4/27 is apparently useless. Live and learn I guess.

This looks like a great Whispersync deal.

It is Spain in Our Hearts: Americans in the Spanish Civil War, 1936–1939. You may remember that this was a war against fascism. Nazi Germany actively supported the fascists and had an opportunity in this war to test their war-making machine and tactics; it was basically a trial run for their prosecution of World War II. And, it was a portent of their callous disregard for human life and suffering.

The WS deal is only $5.98. This is for nearly 500 pages of ebook, with a corresponding long narration. What bang for the buck!

Most importantly, perhaps, is the ratings: 4.5 (190) at Amazon; a stellar (for GoodReads raters) 4.25 (902) at GoodReads.

To make sure that the title accurately reflected the premise of the book, I checked the book description. I wish to quote this: "Positive emotions alone are not enough. Anger makes us creative, selfishness makes us brave . . . ."

I'm not saying that I haven't always suppressed my dark side, even here on MobileRead, but we don't need people telling us to unleash some or all of our dark side, especially on other people, even for the purpose of making us successful. I'm sure that the author doesn't/wouldn't appreciate that being done to him.

We need a nicer, kinder world. And this book doesn't help things.

I'm curious. It's possible the title and description are both click-bait* and the book actually is more about controlling and channeling the dark side, like the Jedi and the Vulcans, rather directly using its power, like the Sith.

Perhaps the author was just concerned that the people who most need that sort of help would only read it if it pretended to be of a like mind.

That's what I'd do if I wrote a book on being a nicer person.

I didn't think of that possibility, to be honest with you. I accepted it at face value. I'll try to read some of the Amazon preview, and some of the professional reviews. Thanks to alerting me to another possibility.

There are books which do advocate the very thing that this one might be pretending to. I'll have to think of some examples.

Star Trek preached the same message in the episode where Captain Kirk was split into a "good" Kirk and a "bad" Kirk. The good Kirk was paralyzed by inaction when he needed to make decisions. Bad Kirk had no problem making decisions, but they were all disastrous.

Might be an insightful book. I just bought it.
