^That's the lowest number I've seen out of you in months. Mine had grown to 10, but I've received a lot of gifts and I've been stockpiling a few of next year's required reading list titles.

I think a more accurate estimate for TBRs is how long it would take to clear. Given that pdurrant reads about 150 titles a year then it's a two and a half year TBR. My TBR is about four months right now.

My belief is the TBR is a problem once you get to half a year of reading. I'm still within manageable, but 20 would definitely be a half year most of the time for me.

My TBR stats for number of books, number of pages, remaining cost of books on the list, and estimated clearing data is in my signature now.

This is a very good point. Athough I think I'd be happier with a 3-month (say 40 book) TBR list, but I can see that for someone who reads fewer books, a TBR pile of at least five is probably desirable, so that there's a choice of book to read when the current one is completed.

So: towards a TBR of 40 or less for me in 2014! (Currently 389!)

I would like a TBR pile of 15-20 so I can start right on the next book as soon as the current one is done. 40 would be about 4-5 months for me.

Sometimes I read voraciously and other times I just can't find my reading mojo. I have a huge amount of TBRs both dead tree and ebooks.

I'll never get around to reading them all but I'm trying my best! I'm also trying not to buy any, and I haven't bought a paper book for quite a long time.

I haven't bought any ebooks in a bit, but I did visit a B&N while in Little Rock this weekend. Bought three paper books, two of which are Christmas presents for someone. The third is the hardcover of Ghost Story by Jim Butcher. I have all the others in e-format and I wanted a Dresden hardcover for my shelf.

It felt strange shopping for books in an actual store. Haven't done that in far too long. It was nice. Clearance racks rock.

I'm everywhere like that... LOL I'm glad someone is enjoying my music since I'm rather stumped myself these days. The muse is being difficult again. But starting tomorrow morning, I'll have the house to myself for a week. That usually frees up some creativity. I've got my fingers crossed that I'll get a couple of new songs out of this little "stay-cation".

Well, I managed for 52 days. But everything Diane Duane writes is on my wishlist, and her 50% sale this weekend at her ebooksdirect ebook store meant I bought four new ebooks. I'm currently running 215 ebooks added to my TBR pile and 221 removed from my TBR pile this year, a net reduction of just 6 ebooks.

But I'll do better next year, I'm sure I will!

I'm sure you'll do better next year, Paul. For myself, I started out the year with only a couple dozen or so books in my TBR pile. But then, my Kindle was fairly new and I hadn't had a job in a while. Sadly, my TBR collection has grown substantially this year, but I'm really hoping to do better myself next year. I've at least managed to get it down to no worse than one in/one out in the last couple of months. Now, if my favourite authors don't have big EOY sales, I'll be fine.

And already I've bought something else. But it was on my wish list, and it was on a special £0.99 offer.

Not that I'll read it for a while, as it's the third in the series and I've only bought and read the first!

Well. My TBR pile is getting bigger. Up past 10 books now. What's more disturbing is the expected completion date which has hit April 2012. I've done well as far as purchases, but I've been filling my e-reader with items on next year's reading list.

Assuming I buy no more ebooks, my estimated completion date is around Christmas 2013...

...but that's not a very realistic assumption! However, if I can hold purchases down to 80 or so a year (which I should be able to manage, now that Fictionwise is winding down), then I might start to get low on ebooks around the middle of 2015(!)

I found Zendegi, by Greg Egan, for the Kindle, at a price of $0.01. I couldn't resist.
