Go for the Star Trek: TNG Relaunch. While it starts off slow, it does pick up the pace and the Destiny Trilogy is very good. The books so far are (in order)...

Death in Winter · Michael Jan Friedman
Resistance · J.M. Dillard
Q&A · Keith R.A. DeCandido
Before Dishonor · Peter David
Greater Than the Sum · Christopher L. Bennett
Destiny: Book One: Gods of Night · David Mack
Star Trek: Destiny: Mere Mortals · David Mack
Star Trek: Destiny: Lost Souls · David Mack

The last one has a street date of November 25th. I am in the middle of reading the first Destiny book and it is very good. All are available as eBooks.

Should have looked at Simon and Schuster's site. They have it for $4.54.

I too am having trouble with A Passage to India. I'm finding it rather dry and I am finding the characters to be a bit dull. It has a feel of a book that your English teacher is forcing you to read and then write a report on. I will finish it though. But it's hard when I have so many better books to read.

Oh no... I wasted a buck. Thanks, I knew they sold these books but forgot to go there. Of course, I would have had to buy it (LIT) on my Windows machine which I don't use alot any more. I will make sure to look their for future purchases... I want to catch up on all the Trek series (seri? serises?).

Ok! Thanks. I will look into that, especially if all are available as ebooks. Are they available at certain places?

Thanks for the recommendation, I really appreciate it!

If you do not mind them in Mobipocket format, you can use Cyberread's 50% off code for a total of $18.70 (average of $4.21 each) and the third Destiny is not yet out.

Just use the code THKU08 at checkout.

Ok, I see them. I'll order them tonight.

Is it called Relaunch? Or is that your term?

That's the term used for TNG books that take place after Nemesis.

I love Steven Millhauser's writing and just purchased from Fictionwise (using my 20% coupon) his newest book, Dangerous Laughter, a collection of 13 short stories

Are there any other fans of this fine writer?

Don

P.S.: I collect his hardcover First Editions but, alas, being in Peru, I don't have the above title in a hardback edition.

I loved that book. Maybe it's time to reread.

It's funny, but for books I really love, I want to own them in paper (for sentimental reasons) and ebook as well. I have two books by J. N. Stroyar, The Children's War and A Change of Regime, and wholeheartedly endorse them for anybody who's a fan of dystopian sci-fi/alternative history. The first is also at FW, and I'm going to buy it, too.

Oh, and I realize there's a separate thread devoted to this, but I'm rereading Anathem and just love it. For fans of Stephenson - I've never read anything else of his; how likely is it that I'll love his other books, if I like this one? My husband has read a few and thinks Anathem is quite different from his earlier works.

Anathem is very different from, say, Snow Crash and Diamond Age; and even Cryptonomicon. The three books in the Baroque Cycle might be the next ones to read - style-wise they are almost a bridge between the style of his older works, and Anathem. For what it's worth, given that everyone's tastes are different, I loved Anathem and the Baroque Cycle more than I did the other three I mentioned. If you do read Snow Crash, bear in mind that it was written well before things like Second Life were around...

Or you might want to try something like Iain M Banks' Culture novels.

Just finished 'The Surgeon' by Tess Gerritson. It was a freebie and I wished I hadn't downloaded the damn thing! Because now I'm hooked and will have to buy all the rest she's written.

It was a great read and I'm looking forward to all the others.

Damn, these free books cost a lot of money!
