Windows does not handle removable media with multiple partitions, so you cannot read the card with Windows. With a MAC or Linux computer, you should be able to. That is assuming that whatever the problem is that needs the image to fix it, is leaving the card readable. |

I managed to brick my Kobo Glo HD. Could someone please hook me up with the 4Gb SD image so I can resurrect it from the dead?
Thank you very much! |

@TheJesus: You need to enable Private Messaging. This is in the "Edit Options" of the control panel. If this isn't there, it has to be added somehow. You can try posting in https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=319819 to ask it to be enabled, or contact a moderator.

And multiple attempts to contact me do no help. If I don't respond quickly, it is probably because I am not here at the time. I'm probably doing something like sleeping or working. When I am next on the forum, I will see the first response and respond then. |

Thank you for sharing the SD card image. I was able to put it on the sd card, but sadly my Kobo Glo HD doesn't seem to accept it. When I put it in, the device shows a brief red light but the screen remains black and nothing happens. Whereas when I restore the backup image I took before I loaded the factory image, the device shows a white screen, 3 animated dots appear and then the screen goes black again and nothing happens. The same happens when I try the reset button: powers on, 3 dots, then black screen and nothing after that. I'm quickly running out of ideas on how to save this reader from the electronics graveyard, so if anyone happens to recognize this situation and has any insight or advice, I would very gratefully welcome it. |

Have you actually tried a factory reset? The reset button doesn't do this. All it does is restart a device that has hung. The various methods of doing a factory reset for the Glo HD are on https://wiki.mobileread.com/wiki/Kobo_Reset:_Glo_HD. You want to use the last method. |

Davidfor, you are indeed a Grand Sorcerer. Thanks again for the advice. I was able to get this device up and running again.
Strangely enough, I could not get the factory image to work. I've tried 2 different microSD cards, both 4Gb, and neither was accepted by the device. When I tried to boot with those cards, the red power light lit up briefly, then went out and the screen just stayed blank. I ended up triple-checking the model ereader that I was working with, but it is indeed a Glo HD. I wrote the SD card image using a tool called USB Image Tool. Source: https://www.alexpage.de/usb-image-tool/ Using another tool called Mini Partition Wizard I was able to see that the SD card had the different partitions I was expecting, leading me to believe that it was written correctly. ![]() For reference, this is what my original SD card looked like, partition-wise ![]() I'm not sure why it wouldn't accept the SD card built from the factory image. I had also previously tried the factory reset using the pinhole button, but where you're supposed to boot to a screen with square icons, mine just stayed black after showing those initial round loading dots. In the end I was able to do the reset by keeping the power button pressed and repeatedly tapping the bottom corners of the screen and then releasing the power button when the screen changes. It took a few tries to get the timing right, because the first few times I tried it, the screen just stayed black. But after one last desperate attempt, an actual factory reset was triggered and I'm able to configure my reader again. A massive THANK YOU for your help. Now we can have ebook Christmas gifts again ![]() ![]() ![]() |
