The books appear to be predominantly non-fiction, so this is the thread that I'm posting on. One thing that is special to this set of markdowns is the presence of about a couple of dozen books related to Christmas.

I see where Packt Publishing has been offering a new free book each day, at least for the last week or two. I saw them do this a year or so ago and made a post then. I don't know if they've been doing it since then, and I haven't seen it, or if they just do this periodically.

Anyway, today's free ebook is Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Security Cookbook. Yeah, it's not for everybody. But if you're the kind of person who could use this book, you'll save $30 on it today. Here's a link to the ebook's giveaway page. You've got just over 18 hours from the time of this post to claim it. Oh, all of Packt's books, as far as I know, have something to do with computers, mostly the programming and use of software thereof.

The webpage that I linked to, above, also shows the past freebies and a calendar for the upcoming daily freebies (you might need to scroll down a little way). They've actually been doing the free book every day for at least 4 months now. Most of them are at least 2-3 years old and many of them are discussing specific versions of applications, tools and platforms that are probably way out of date.

Great find. A little bit different from the offerings of other "weird-name publishers of out of copyright works." Stuff that's right down my alley. For the benefit of others who may not have checked the offerings yet, I think that all of the ebooks are non-fiction, unless you count collections of myths and such things as that.

I like that description for this kind of publisher. I hope that you don't mind if I use it. "Weird-name publisher of out of copyright works"--that's good.

Packt Publishing's free ebook of the day is Express Web Application Development.

Publication date June 2013. That's the only edition available at Packt. GoodReads shows a May 2014 edition, that was "first published January 1st 2013." That, and the fact that the two editions that GoodReads shows have the same number of pages (236), strongly leads me to believe that there are no later editions.

At this moment, you have over 21 hours to claim it.
