FREE/BARGAIN - Audiobooks - 2015

I have an Audible account of some kind--I've purchased bargain titles and snagged some freebies (thanks to you guys!) but I've never had an Audible "subscription" of any kind.

Hubby was given a gift of a 3-month Audible subscription. Are there "better" times than others to activate that subscription? Perhaps during sale campaigns, two-fers or whatever?

I'm looking for your knowledge and advice before I run the activation code...

There's many possible answers to that question. First, it will depend on where you are, or more precisely which store you are using. I can't offer good advice on the Amazon.co.uk store. If you are talking about the primary store (US, though many others use it as well) then opinions may vary on that subject.

There is a BOGO sale going on right now, so that's a good way to maximize credits.

Normally in October there will be a Buy-4-Get-$10 promotion. You could get you membership now, save credits until October, then have 3/4 of the books you need to get the bonus. The other could be bought at a discount (members get 30%, I believe). Whispersync titles (buy the Kindle version and get the Audible version of the same title at a discount) normally count as well. There's no guarantee that promotion will happen, though they are fairly consistent.

Beyond that I'd say just keep your eyes open here. When there is a members-only deal or a credits-only deal jump in and take advantage. I did the same thing last year (waited for a BOGO sale, signed up, and immediately got 2 books for my first credit).

That just gave me a great idea! I could give 1-month trial subscriptions to Prime and Audible, as gifts for birthdays, graduations . . . . That would save me a whole lot of money.

I just called Audible support. They were surprisingly unhelpful. Maybe I'll call back and try to get a different rep.

I have had the same experience as ApK apparently has had--Audible (and Amazon, too, for that matter) reps have almost always been helpful--and nice. My experience has been pretty limited, though--about 6 contacts, I would say (Amazon, maybe 3 or 4 more than that).

To get the email with the free audiobook link, you need to be a member of the Ford Audiobook Club on Goodreads. If you already are, then I'm stumped as to why you can't claim the free book.

Thanks, this might be a good time, then. But when I go to Audible, logged in *without* activating a subscription yet, I don't see any sales/offers/BOGO (I just wanted to confirm the BOGO before activating the membership). Is it only visible if you're a subscriber already?

BTW, we're in the US if that helps with the answers to my queries.

Absolutely. Even better: check the first post in this thread and you'll see a link to known "secret codes" to sign up for a free month or two. Some of these get you more than one month, others get you more than one book for the month. Again, your instinct is correct to maximize your value.
