I've just recovered from seeing the quote to have my boiler replaced - a tad more than I expected.
My living room fire has to be replaced which bumped the cost up.

But, if all goes to plan (who am I kidding?); it'll all be done and dusted just in time to pack up over Christmas.

Hope for the best, expect the usual.

Well that's what I have been doing for a few years, but lately it's not enough. Those bifocal lenses are great for near sight, and OK for mid-range though I need a couple of seconds to refocus each time I blink, but right now far sight is rather foggy/blurry. Good thing I don't need to drive next week. I hope things get better by then, otherwise I'll have to start thinking about wearing glasses again

Is lasering an option?
Maybe it won't correct everything, but might it do away with the need for bifocal lenses?

Ouch. Maybe you should plan a trip to somewhere warm this winter? Good luck with the replacement and I hope not too much goes wrong

Laser correction is VERY expensive here in the States. I would love to get it but would still need to wear glasses to correct for near vision. They can't correct both near and far with laser.

I don't think so, lasering would only fix the shortsightedness, not the other stuff (Google translate says presbyopia, is that right? It sounds weird). But anyway, I'm not letting anyone near my eyes with a laser, not unless I have to choose between that and being blind. I've been happy with contact lenses for more than 20 years, but I guess I can wear glasses again if I have to... it doesn't sound as bad now as it did before, mostly because I haven't seen "right" for several years now, because of that darn presbyopia. Getting old sucks

i sympathise with you, florence. i only started wearing my glasses all the time quite recently (a couple of years maybe ?). when i was younger i had perfect vision, but it's been getting progressively worse with time (and working all day on the computer doesn't help, i'm sure). now, if i'm not wearing them, looking across the street or in the distance it's a bit blurry, and it's worse when my eyes are tired. it's really disconcerting, i'm still not used to it. my ophthalmologist said that in a few years i will start getting presbyopia (?? that *does* sound weird, it's "presbytie" right ?), so then the two defects will probably cancel each other out more or less. i hope you get used to your new lenses soon. if not, you could get some very stylie glasses ; i like mine quite a lot, actually, i just wish i could still see everything as clearly as before (with or without them) .

On the plus side, when I look in the mirror without my specs these days, I am noticeably handsomer the blurrier I become.

sadly, the mirror has to be some distance away for me to enjoy that side effect.

NEARSIGHTED! it's funny to watch y'all struggle with that! we don't even bother!

I had laser done about 10 years ago (it was only $2000, I thought that was pretty damn reasonable!). I had been in glasses since I was 9, and was getting to the point where I was damn near legally blind without correction. I went through 2 incidents of losing my glasses at home, one was in a pasture with an EXTREMELY ill tempered horse, and the hubby said do it!!! losing a contact or glasses simply wasn't an option for me! I can't imagine going back to life with corrective lenses! I don't need reading glasses at the moment and have no idea if the laser corrected that need or not. my Dad, whose vision irregularities are closest to mine was into bifocals in his 40s, so who knows?

Yep! But that still qualifies as morning here (especially as it is a Saturday and it is cold, windy, and rainy).

I'm sitting on my couch all dressed up at 8:37 pm, drinking Porto and reading another comfort romance book, and listening to Anouar Brahem, and reading the messages. Does that count?
