The caring profession is a job no different from a shop job. Empathy wears out as those practicing are overworked and underpaid. Every human has the right to have a bad day and is not immune to rebellion. They still are subjected to the "machine", the "industry". I'm sure that those fine people are subjected to that...thing at this moment. They'll come through...

I hope that everything works out. My thoughts are with you Geoff!

Ha Geoff, all my sympathy. A young colleague got over it by staying away from milk and cheese. Imagine of all things. But he was out of work for more than a year.

I can't think of a better place to post this. Even though it does have to do with books and/or literature.

An author whom I greatly admire (but who shall remain nameless, for discretionary reasons), posted a huge long rant on her Facebook notes page tonight about how she writes Literature, not mysteries. Basically she dissed every mystery author out there, as if they were an inferior species, and she got really disparaging about Cozy mystery authors in particular. It made me mad; A. Because I've read this author's books, and they're great, but they are NOT Literature...they're well, mysteries. Sorry. And B. There is nothing in this world wrong with writing mysteries. There's nothing wrong with Cozy mysteries, and there's nothing wrong with having cats as characters in a mystery, (evidently another pet peeve of this woman).

Sad story. Attacking unprovoked other authors is always a bad publicity. What I really fail to understand is, why mystery books are not literature...

I like my Mrs Murphy mysteries! And I generally don't like mysteries. So, there must be something wrong with cats as characters in mysteries... Otherwise I wouldn't have liked those Mrs Murphy novels...

I like the Mrs. Murphy mysteries too, but apparently those aren't mysteries either, they're social satire as seen through the eyes of the animals. (I'm being sarcastic, there).
I always like the wrong things too, If I like a tv show, it gets canceled. If I hate it, it's a huge hit.
