Good stuff!!!

Next time it gets too hot, instead of several glasses of mike, try 1/2 a teaspoon of honey. When I first start to travel in Korea, Thailand, India, etc., places where the food can often get waaaaay too hot, I carried a small plastic 'honey bear' in my pocket. (Actually, it was smaller... a plastic squirt bottle for medicine.) You really only need a few drops to cut all the burn!

The gorse has finished flowering, but we now have the equally yellow display from the broom. Large poppies, orange red, crimson red and mauve are all giving a show, and the smaller yellow poppies are joining in.
All the veg are very slow this year, though the potatoes are well in leaf.

Thanks for that tip. I've eaten enough of the hot stuff over the years to know better than to try to put out the fire with water (only makes it hotter!), but I've never heard of using honey. There's some in the cabinet now, so next time I'll try your advice.

Works better than milk, better than yogurt, better than apples. Honey will even stop the pain from Scotch Bonnet Habaneros when we pig out on Jamaican foods!

Tasty? What does that matter when your taste buds are destroyed?

The funny thing is the burn doesn't destroy the tastebuds. It hurts and clears your sinuses, but it doesn't stop the taste any. I don't ever eat the hot ones on purpose, but you add some minced jalepeno (without seeds and pulp) to Ranch dressing and it makes a wonderful dip. Jalepeno and other chiles add quite a bit to a dish if done right. They can be a mysterious flavor that really, really makes a dish wonderful. I use a lot of New Mexican green chiles (which range in heat). Wonderful paired with chicken and cream (and bit of mustard.)

The very mention of the word jalapeños makes my mouth water like one of Pavlov's dogs to a dinner bell. And it never give me heartburn. Bread does, but not hot peppers, not even that stuff named Death I found at a Four Flags tourist stop, and I've met few people who would dare touch a toothpick to their tongue a second time after the end of that toothpick was dipped in Death. It came in a bottle with a small chain around the bottle's neck to which was attached a miniature plastic skull. An apprentice and I were the only folks at the shop who would put it on chips and eat it, but I must confess, it was mostly a macho thing, although it had a nice taste.

Once after one such session I made the mistake of using the urinal without first washing my hands. I'll never make that mistake again!

when I was growing up Dad would go to the local truck farms and get bushels of chilies that we would process in a weekend and make a seasons worth of salsa. inevitably people stopped by and would get involved in the chilie peeling process. it was always amazing that amount of folks that would not pay attention to the potty warnings!

I'm interested in your success with lemongrass, Stichawl. I love the smell of it - I like it in bath oil and soap, etc., too. I wonder if I can try and plant some next time I see it on sale in the shops. Hmm.
