YourClassical's free classical piece today is Claude Debussy's Prelude a l'apres-midi d'un faune (Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun). This version is performed by the South West German Radio Symphony Orchestra, Baden-Baden. with Sylvain Cambreling as conductor.
The piece comes from the SWR Music Hanssler Classic label album Les Ballets Russes, Vol. 3. It is a 10 minute, 40 second piece. It is in the MP3 format, as it looks like all of YourClassical's free pieces are (at least, they've all been since I began posting them). There is more about the entire album at this webpage. You can find the "Direct MP3 download link" for the free piece on this webpage. See you Monday, to start a new M-F week of freebies from YourClassical! |

Rated PG-13. You won't find any horror movies rated that clean. Gets a 71% approval rating on the RottenTomatoes.com tomatometer (that's the critics' rating). The audience approval is 70%. Those are great numbers. I might have to watch a non-documentary movie this weekend, for the first time in several years . . . . Thanks for the heads-up. |

The horror genre may be broader than I realize, also. I'm not talking about thrillers, suspense, etc., even when an occasional person turns up dead, even experiences a violent death. I'm talking about the genre where people get chopped up, and otherwise killed suddenly in violent ways, etc.--a lot. Examples include Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Nightmare on Elm Street I, II, III, how many ever there were, Halloween I, II, III, how many ever there were, Night of the Living Dead. And what was that movie about a camp on a lake where the kids were killed off one by one. Was that the one was Jason in? Did I include that one in the bunch? Oh, I remember now, there was at least one sequel to that horror movie with the teenagers at a camp on a lake gradually getting picked off. I watched almost all of them. |

^ Yeah, the genre is very large, and includes a ton of the slasher type R rated stuff like you mention (and Jason is in the Friday the 13th series). But also hundreds of great G to PG-13 titles such as the classic Universal monsters, most Godzilla-type films, and even most modern horror releases are PG-13 to get more viewers.
More back on topic, thanks again for The Final Girls mention. Really enjoyed that free rental last night. |

![]() How could I have forgotten the name of Friday the 13th? That was certainly a classic. I do wish that the slasher movies were considered a separate sub-genre (maybe some people do so consider it), so as to make a distinction. To me, there is a lot of difference between them and the monster movies and other ones that you mentioned. "Slasher" might be a good name for the subgenre, if it's not being used already . . . . Since my music-posting responsibilities (ha) are few today, with it being Saturday, I thought that I would post today's eMusic free download.
I had started posting them a few months ago, but got so frustrated with eMusic because of bad files, files that wouldn't download, etc. that I quit doing it. But, I've been checking for myself each day. EMusic's issues might be slightly better now. The reason that I'm posting today is mainly because today's seems exceptionally good. I think that all of their artists are up-and-comers (or, simply never have gotten famous). Today's style/genre is some variety of metal rock, it's the kind where, the best that I can describe it, the singers sing with a deep, guttural, hoarse-sounding voice. It's not my bread-and-butter as far as music goes, but I can enjoy a little bit of it. These guys sound as good as the best that I've heard. Song: Slaughter The Bestial Legion Artist: War Metal Battle Master Label: Southern Lord Genre: Rock/Pop Styles: Metal Download from this webpage. Last edited by GtrsRGr8; 10-22-2016 at 06:35 PM. |

I take it that you don't like classical? ha
Because of your post, I may start posting eMusic's daily free downloads again, occasionally, when I feel that one is of exceptional quality (regardless of genre, style, etc.). Thanks. |

I don't, but it's better than country or rap.

I just realized--there hasn't been any free, or very few at least, downloads of hip-hop/rap at eMusic since I started monitoring their daily giveaway announcements. I do remember a few country ones (there was one just two or three days ago), but not many.
I wasn't much of a classical music listener until I dug up all of the freebie offers. I have greater appreciation for them now. There are some styles/varieties that I still don't like. |

The software is Android Converter, by Engelmann Media GmbH. Here's the blurb on the website of the third party company (BitsDuJour) giving away this software: You've just got your first Android device, now what? Well, now you can get started with your favorite music and videos! Oh, that's right - it's your first Android device and none of your files is in the proper format! Well, that just means you need to get your hands on a copy of today's discount software promotion, Android Converter, right away! Android Converter lets you create videos, audio clips, and photo files for perfect playback on your Android device! With Android Converter, you can convert files from a wide array of formats and resolutions to ones that are completely supported by the Android platform. For video, there's support for DVD video as well as files in the AVI, WMV, MP4, 3GP, VOB, MPG (MPEG-1, MPEG-2,) and MPEG-4 (DivX 3.11 to 6, Xvid, Nero Digital etc.) and MJPEG format. For audio, Android Converter can not only rip audio CDs, but can also convert Internet streams and audio tracks from DVDs. No matter what you start out with, you can rest assured that Android Converter will automatically optimize all of your media for display on your Android. Once you see it, you'll never believe that these files weren't native to your platform! Reviews and/or ratings have been hard to come by, but I didn't take the time to dig all that much. The BitsDuJour webpage for the product is here. I've gone ahead and downloaded it, but haven't installed it. There are several people who, in the comments section, complained about not getting the key in their email, as they were supposed to. But, I got mine in my email in just a few seconds. Whadd'ya thinK? Would anyone be willing to take it on a test drive, maybe on the above Naxos album, and see if you can get it to play on your Android device? If you would, you might be rendering a great service to some of your fellow MobileReaders, who would like this or other similarly restricted albums from Naxos. |
