I thought that I was pretty well edumacated about geography, but when I read the book description, I did not recognize the name of the town/city Ceuta. Come to find out, it is in Morocco, directly across the strait from Gibraltar (a mountain, with Spain surrounding it, but which is a part of Great Britain). Maybe Ceuta would be a good place to relax and "get away from it all." If you wanted a big, exotic place to visit or hang out, Tangiers, Morocco is just down the road from Ceuta. On the Origins of Sports: The Early History and Original Rules of Everybody's Favorite Games. By Gary Belsky; Neil Fine. it's a 4.9-star (40) at Amazon! I didn't even bother to look up the ratings at GoodReads, with that kind of rating at Amazon. 256 pages. $1.99 (80% of the digital list price). https://www.amazon.com/Origins-Sport.../dp/B015X2PGFS. It's currently the #1 seller in one Kindle store category, so they label it a "bestseller." there. |

Maybe one of tubemonkey's alma maters?
Anyway, it's as cheap as you can get, unless someone pays you to take it (i.e., it's free). The Open Door: A History of Tacoma Community College. By Dale Coleman. On September 13, 1965, Tacoma Community College opened its doors to the public. The founding of the College was the culmination of four years of coordinated effort, steadfast leadership and grassroots community support. Built around the idea that educational opportunity is a critical component of a thriving community, TCC set forth on a mission to bring high-quality, affordable education to all, without regard to means or circumstance. Over the next 50 years, as thousands of students passed through the open door to previously unavailable opportunity and achievement, the strength and resilience of this simple idea would be tested. Through economic hardship, social upheaval, changing job markets and times of crisis both global and local, Tacoma Community College would prove to be an enduring educational institution. This is the story of TCC, as told by the students, faculty, staff and community leaders who helped to build, develop and defend Tacoma’s open door college. There's only 3 ratings that I could find, but they're all 5's. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00SHK7KJ4. |

I'm putting this post on this thread because of concerns that the company might be considered a self-pub.
I'm going out on a limb here. Previous posts that I have made of ebooks from companies like this one seem to have gotten panned a lot. The book comes from BookBoon. It is a company that seems to be in the mold of companies like TradePub, an outfit with which you may be more familiar. The book is Where You May Get it Wrong When Writing English: A Practical Guide for Students, Teachers and Professionals, by Leon Barkho. It has a stated 219 pages, but the content is a little less than that; see below. Best of all, it is free. The book has no ratings that I can find--usually a kiss of death as far as my posting is concerned. But what it does have--that I've never run across before in the books that I've looked for for the purpose of posting on MobileRead--is a peer review. A peer ("peer" in this context meaning someone who has equal or better credentials than the author, in the subject under consideration in the book) review is usually reserved for academic-type journal articles, mainly, but rarely, it seems, for books. This book apparently received a favorable opinion (page 3). BookBoon definitely seems oriented toward business professionals. I got my account years ago, however, by simply being the proprietor of a used book business. So it shouldn't be hard to qualify for an account (which you will need to download their books), if you don't have one. Look at author Barkho's books, distributed by Amazon, and you will notice that they are all what I consider very expensive. This title is available there beginning at $68.03. An anomaly: this is the 2011 edition, where the one from BookBoon is stated as being published in 2016, and being a first edition. I suspect that the only change are in the advertisements in the book. Yes, there are advertisements throughout the book. But we can handle those, right? I mean, we get them thrown at us all of the time on the Internet. BTW--that reduces the usable content of the book to quite a bit less than the 219 pages. http://bookboon.com/en/where-you-may...-english-ebook. Last edited by GtrsRGr8; 06-30-2017 at 02:34 PM. |

GA, it looks like there won't be any more possibilities from old emails. But I generally only signed up for ones that had music that I liked.

Free.
Now that I've got your attention, the freebie is Women of Scotland: A Journey to Scottish History. Many of us have Scottish ancestors. And that means that at least one of them is almost certainly a Scottish woman, I think (I'm not exactly sure how that works, I flunked S*X 101 in high school ![]() 237 pages. There aren't enough ratings to satisfy my criteria--5 out of just 2 at Amazon; 4.17 at GoodReads, from only 6 ratings. However, I've decided that at least for this book, being the #1 sub-category best seller, twice, at the Kindle store, will equal 5 positive ratings each. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00C8CPTV8/. If you find that this is a cut-and-paste ebook, please forgive. The publisher's name makes me think that it is a self-pub, indie, or whatever, so it's going on this thread, instead of the non-fiction thread, anyway. |
