Hi All,

Is Kobo n647 still useable and supported ? I just got one off ebay and I cannot seem to get it to load books with calibre. This is my first time with an ebook reader or using calibre.

I have been looking through these forums but have not been able to find what I am looking for.

I downloaded Calibre for my Mac OS Monterey and it does recognize the Kobo, firmware 1.9.11.
But When I go to transfer books or synch it in anyway, or update metadata here are the errors I get:



CantOpenError: unable to open database file

Traceback (most recent call last):
File "calibre/gui2/device.py", line 88, in run
File "calibre/gui2/device.py", line 540, in _books
File "calibre/devices/kobo/driver.py", line 364, in books

I keep seeing posts about Flashing the SD image, which I don't know what it means,but wondering if I need to do that as well? I don't have an external SD card right now in it, but could get one.
Any advice or pointing to other threads or resources would be appreciated.

Personally, I don't think they are "useable". I have an old Touch which has a better screen than the WiFi and still gets firmware updated. I don't think it is "useable", so I would find the WiFi worse.

And Kobo officially stopped supporting them three or four years ago. But, hadn't done an update for a while before that.

That means the database on the device is corrupt. You would need to restore a recent backup or create a new one. And I'm not sure how to do the latter on a WiFi. You might have to do a factory reset. And again, I don't know how to do that on a WiFi.

I think that is an error caused by the earlier error. The database wasn't read correctly, so some later actions will not work.

With this, calibre is probably putting the books on the device, but I suspect the problem with the database is preventing the device from importing them when you disconnect the device.

There is an problem with the last update to the WiFi that can only be fixed by reimaging the internal SD card. And problems such as a corrupt database can be caused by a failing SD card. The WiFi is over 10 years old, so a failing card would be likely and a new card might solve it. Doing this is fairly easy and you can look at Memory Upgrade Mod Guide for some idea of how to do it.

I was concerned that maybe the case, that it is too old, but worth trying the reimaging of the SD care.

I see that link has a guide, do I need to ask you for the image to be sent to me?

Appreciate it, I'm on the waitlist for the new Pocketbook ERA, this was just to tide me over on an upcoming trip- but has been a rough entree into this world!

@Washcloth8804: You need to enable Private Messaging. This is in the "Edit Options" of the control panel. If this isn't there, it has to be added somehow. You can try posting in https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=319819 to ask it to be enabled, or contact a moderator.

@davidfor: I've written to moderator about the enabling pm.

Yesterday I did the thing worse. I found a guide there was telling that I need to take apart the book, and change directories in the sdcard on the straight. When I did, I accidentally formatted that sd. And there is nothing left inside. There are no partitions that were before. And of course i didn't do any backups
