You should feel special. Audible makes me feel special quite frequently whenever I visit them. They even send me emails just in case I'm not feeling special while reading my mail. Not only that, but it's contagious. Other book vendors make me feel special too.

Man, I'm so special

The trick to keep feeling special is to never take them up on their offers. Otherwise, disappointment ensues. Then I'm a sad monkey

So much for their algorithms that target their customers

Which narrator do folks think is better? I don't have any LOTR audiobooks, and would like to pick up one set...

Andy Serkis hands down! He's the voice of Gollum in the movies.

I have the ones narrated by Rob Ingles and refuse to buy them again just because they have a different narrator. Once is enough.

Thanks! Turns out I already do have The Hobbit and Fellowship by Inglis, and didn't remember buying them. So I'm going to stick with the same narrator and get my $5 coupon buying the other two. Woo-hoo, and thanks!

I'd recommend the Andy Sirkis ones. I already have the Rob Ingles ones and listened to both Hobbits. Sirkis has the edge, IMHO.

If someone here already has listened or read the story and found it ho hum, you probably won't be any more thrilled with the newer version.

Yes, I can confirm. I am an Audible Plus member (not Premium) and I can see The Hobbit with Serkis as narrator available for $3.95 for today only 3/25. All the other LOTR titles show at full price for me.

New “Silver” Plan at Audible

It looks as though Audible has tweaked its Silver plan; I don’t know if they still call it that. The new option bills at $8.50 a month for a credit every other month. Absent a deal, it’s the cheapest way to keep a membership active, if that’s important to you, but it still seems a hefty premium on the price of a credit. I can’t imagine paying $17 for a credit myself, but I grant there’s an argument for those who take advantage of sales and promotions that the cost is amortized somewhat.

Me, I’m glad I have a large still-unheard library and access to Hoopla.

ETA: It’s possible this is a targeted offer. I wasn’t able to navigate to a page showing it, and clicking on the link takes me to a confirmation page.

Audible US plans & pricing

Yes, it seems to still be known as the Silver plan according to a hidden tag on the pricing page. The $8.50/month is just a bit higher than the regular $7.95 for Audible Plus - and you get a credit every other month. Not a bargain by any means... I am loving my $1.95/month Plus plan. I'm sure it was a mistake and hope they don't have second thoughts and rescind the offer. Prime members who are not Audible members appear to be offered a free month trial, that's the"special" part, issybird... wow (not). Here's the full rundown of Audible's various plans per the website as of today, they become more confusing as time goes on:

Quote:
How much does Audible cost?
Plans start at $8.50 per month after free trial. Visit our Plans & Pricing page to learn more.
Audible Premium Plus - 1 Credit Every Other Month: $8.50/month, billed at $17 every other month: Includes the Plus Catalog + 1 credit every other month for any premium selection title.
Audible Premium Plus - 1 Credit: $14.95/month: includes the Plus Catalog + 1 credit per month for any premium selection title.
Audible Premium Plus - 2 Credits: $22.95/month: includes the Plus Catalog + 2 credits per month for any premium selection titles.
Audible Premium Plus Annual - 12 Credits: $149.50/year: includes the Plus Catalog + 12 credits a year for any premium selection titles.
Audible Premium Plus Annual - 24 Credits: $229.50/year: includes the Plus Catalog + 24 credits a year for any premium selection titles.

For Audible Plus members who are paying full price, the Silver plan is an excellent value since that extra $0.55/month will get you one credit every two months.

Something to think about
