I would rather have them release folder support for the MobiPocket fiormware.

This is starting to get ridiculous. They sell new firmwares but refuse to release an update.

Yes, we must face it in rough terms: they treat customer base like pure idiots... and maybe we have the Bookeen we deserve.

Nowadays you can't afford total absence regarding public relations and communication anymore... and in such soon crowded market.
My dissent has overshadowed my patience, the only message they will listen is to not buy their thingies.

I like my Cybook. It's an good looking device that does what it's made to do pretty well. Drag books on, read them, drag them off. Unfortunately, my Cybook freezes occasionally. It doesn't happen that often, but often enough to where the voice in my head has to remind me to go back to the Cybook homescreen then back into the book so it will remember my spot in case it crashes. This is annoying. The lack of firmware is annoying, especially considering I've sent Bookeen multiple emails to which they've responded "it will be out in a couple of weeks."

I just ordered a Kindle 2. I will not be recommending a Bookeen product to anyone I know.

That's my story.

You could make a bookmark from time to time, instead of returning to the bookshelf. It's what I do, it's faster that way !

Thanks for the tip. I've actually done both but for some reason I just return to the bookshelf. It's not the time it takes that's annoying to me, it's the fact that I need to do it. Instead of getting completely immersed in the story as I read, I have some connection to reality in that I know my ebook reader is going to freeze at some point.

Oh well, I'm excited for my Kindle 2.

That seams yet an other bug you have then. My opus seam to stop crashing if you go back to library every now and then. (I do that to (Because going to library marks where you are).

I'm curious about how much support Adobe gives to companies integrating the Adobe Reader Mobile SDK with their product. I know Adobe has a group just for this. From what I gather Bookeen is using the Adobe product for EPUB. So how much help are they getting. Or could it be a completely different issue unrelated to the EPUB support.

Maybe it has to do with how locked down the reader is about accepting new firmware. It would make sense that the new firmware being so different the old one won't allow you to upgrade to it thus requiring you to send them the device to flash the chip directly. Though I do remember something about them flashing the device at a meet up a while back...

This is all pure speculation of course.

Other than the choice of replacement reader, that's my story and sentiment as well.

Hurray! I won't have to wait for that firmware delivery that will not come anymore. I received my new Sony PRS-600 last saturday and I love it. It's so much faster, it starts in just 1 second! Pageflipping is also faster and I finally have the long wanted ePub support.

Now my husband has to wait for the firmware update that wil "soon" ... eh "very soon" .... no probably never arrive... Poor him.

And although my, eh his, Cybook is a great device, I will advise everyone to never, ever buy a Bookeen device because of their total disrespect for their existing customers and total lack of communication skills.

But I will be visiting often because otherwise I will miss out on all the Firmware-funnies here.

...
In fact I make bookmarks for another reason too : when I have to put down my Cybook for a while and close the cover to protect it (like when in public transports), the cover sometimes pushes the nav' button, and changes the page. With a bookmark I'm on the good page faster !

Along the same lines: I am going on the Gaza Freedom March (www.gazafreedommarch.org) at the end of the year. One of the instruction packages advised us not to take anything one would really hate to lose or break. So I've dusted off my old Cybook and will be taking that, and will live my ECO Reader at home in safety.

Regards, Alex

The only possible explanation I can come up with is the (frequently mentioned) one that the older Cybooks do not support the firmware well enough (or at all) and Bookeen do not want to release a firmware that only works on part of them.

Of course they should have put more effort into resolving this faster. But they haven't.

I am encouraged by their recent update that indicates they are still working on it.

Yes, that's the problem. It's not that it takes them a long time to release a firmware. It's that one has to guess.

Trust me, you won't miss anything in this thread. I used to read it for the speculation and rumours as well as the rare pieces of actual information about what's happening at Bookeen but all speculation fell short of the truth and the pieces of information turned out to be also just rumours.

Now I read it mainly out of habit and try to stay away from discussions about the FW, you probably should do the same :-)
