Amazon has removed Download & Transfer option

You folk may indeed be right.

In any case, the forced conversion to KFX does not make me a happy chappy, and Amazon have made a big mistake, if they wanted to continue getting my money. As it is I would be buying about 90% of my ebook needs from Kobo, and all because of the way Amazon have behaved over several years now.

Right now, I am seriously contemplating not even bothering to check Amazon for Kindle ebooks anymore. I've certainly got plenty to read for my remaining lifetime and then some.

The only thing in their favor still, is me getting AZW or AZW3 files via my Keyboard Kindle. They ever stop that, and it is bye bye. I may consider the other solution at that time, but I wouldn't hold my breath, as it will be very much ... can I be bothered.

This is Amazon playing games with the images. It's not a new thing. They reduce the image resolution, recompress the images, remove the color, and convert image formats.

They do all those things, but all the text heavy KFX books that I have looked at have been around double the size of the corresponding D&T azw3.

That is such a broken design. There is no such thing as KFX source for reflowable? It's docx or epub?

The azw3/KF8 is a similar size to the epub source?

That might not seem like much to folk, but since mostly swapping to Kobo in the last few years, I have gotten over 1,000 ebooks at Kobo. That then is the missed sales at Amazon ... a lot of ebooks, and the list continues to grow.

If I am not alone in having done that, with those sort of numbers, then Amazon has indeed missed out on a lot of sales.

To play Devil's Advocate: Amazon has prevented a lot of pirates*,**.

* I do not mean that Timboli is a pirate. I am refering to actual pirates (argh) who strip DRM and distribute.

** Yeah, yeah, yeah... We all "know" that DRM does not prevent piracy.

Yeah, well I doubt any of Amazon's actions have prevented true pirates from getting good copies of any ebooks.

So it is likely the only ones they would be impacting, are those who don't share anyway, who are just folk who want to properly own what they paid for, in as much as they can be flexible with it and not be tied to a specific device or store.

On another note, the irony of me not wanting to use the Amazon Kindle website, but kind of being forced to, because an ebook yesterday and one today, that are on sale, at both Kobo and Amazon, don't have a preview option at Kobo, but they do at Amazon. So I check them there, and then buy at Kobo.

That has certainly happened a few times over the years. A lot of authors or publishers seem to imperfectly support their product at Kobo, even poorly at times.

I've even gotten some first ebooks in a trilogy for free at Kobo, to find that the rest of the trilogy, is either only available at Amazon, or the price is much cheaper there for books 2 & 3.

Sorry for any lack of clarity. I was comparing the sizes of D&T azw3 and KFX download over wifi of the same books.

I've never tried conversion to or from KFX and never used any amazon server based conversion/delivery of personal documents.

In general, EPUB from KindleUnpack of azw3 and azw3 split from kindlegen dual mobi generated from EPUB are all comparable in size. In some relatively rare cases there might be a significant size discrepancy.

Maybe amazon consider KFX bloat a feature because higher dowload charges to publishers.

Also IMO "download charges" should only apply to cell/mobile delivery, not WiFi. I guess historic from K1, K2 and DX family.

I don't know if this is the correct form but point me to the correct one if not.
I have just received another Paperwhite (12th Gen) Signature Edition, the first completely locked up out of the box, and I can not sync it with my old Paperwhite (10th Gen).
Synced the old one on Amazon, synced the new one on Amazon (both on the same account) and nothing.
Copied the whole of the file structure on the old one and pasted it to the new one. The new one will not accept the pasted information, it goes through the motions with no rejection but does not become visible on the Kindle. I have done a reset after the transfer but it doesn't recognise what was copied there.
Has Kindle's structure been radically changed again or is this yet another device with a problem.

I guess it is possible from an older Kindle like the Keyboard Kindle, as it would be for those files downloaded via Download & Transfer via USB, but I certainly wouldn't copy the folder structure and files in any case.

Sometimes there are too many and that's even if there's only one font family.
