Every weekday is like Christmas morning for me--I can't wait to open up the YourClassical website and see what new freebie that I've received. Almost as enjoyable for me is then turning around and letting you guys know about it!
Today, the present is a 6 minute, 30 second piece by Enrique Granados--Maria Del Carmen: Preludio: Opening Chorus. It comes from a 2-CD set of albums produced by Naxos. It is performed by both the Wexford Festival Opera Chorus and Belarussian National Philharmonic Orchestra. For you classical music virtuosos out there, you may like to know who the conductors are of all of the classical music freebies--for this piece on the album set, at least, it is Max Bragado-Darman. It occurs to me that this piece is about as international as one can get. I'm assuming a thing or two here, but the singer and song title is Spanish; both an English group and a Belarus group are the orchestras. The conductor may be Italian, and there may be, at least, some Italian in the last part of the name of the song. Oh, and an American (I think) company produces it (Naxos). YourClassical probably is an American company, too. I may be overlooking one or more nationalities. The One World government conspiracy theorists would have a field day! ![]() As usual, here are the links that you need to know. First, the link to complete information about the 2-CD album set. Second, the link to the webpage where you will see a link that says "Direct MP3 download link," and which you need to click if you want the free piece. It's hard to believe that here it is Friday again.
The last YourClassical free download of the week (there is none on Saturday (or Sunday)) is a ballet (or, I suppose, more accurately, music to accompany a ballet?)--Jacques Ibert's Jean's Fan: Valse. There is so much foreign language on the cover of this album that I can hardly make out what's what. But I can tell that it is performed by Orchestre National des Pays de la Loire, with John Axelrod conducting. That much I can make out. For those MobileReaders who are better at deciphering this stuff (which would be, uh, basically anyone else), there's more information about the whole Naxos album, from which this free piece comes, here on this webpage. It appears that the free piece is from the part of the album called L'Eventail de Jeannie. To download the 3 minute, 51 second free MP3 piece, point your browser to this webpage, then click on the "Direct MP3 download link" link. Last edited by GtrsRGr8; 10-14-2016 at 04:22 PM. |

Since there are no YourClassical freebies on the weekends, I thought that I would use this opportunity to share with you something that you might find helpful.
Have you ever missed a YourClassical freebie that you would have liked to have had? Frankly, that's probably not hard to do if you depend upon me, because I'm usually posting each day's freebie fairly late in the day. But fret not. To my knowledge, none of the other classical music sites that post freebies do this (openly, at least), but YourClassical daily giveaways are archived. The archive does not go back very far, but they do archive. This is done at one location (website), at least. The archive currently has the last eight, counting yesterday's, freebies available to download. With most, if not all, of the other free classical music websites, if you don't download the current freebie before the next one comes out, well, you're just outta luck. Here is the link to the URL of archived YourClassical freebies. Last edited by GtrsRGr8; 10-15-2016 at 12:14 PM. |

I see that Amazon has quite a number of adult pop music CDs on sale this weekend for $3.99. Many are available with AutoRip.

I don't remember an Antonin Dvorak-composed classical music giveaway in the 4 or 5 months that I've been posting giveaways from several companies. That seems a little odd, because I consider Dvorak to be in the pantheon of the great composers. But today, YourClassical is offering a Dvorak piece, free.
It's from an album of Naxos' entitled Symphony No. 9 - 'From the New World' - Symphonic Variations. The particular piece that you can get free off of that album is a nice 11 minute, 57 second piece called Symphony No. 9: II. Largo. The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra performs the piece, with Marin Alsop as the conductor. Find out much more about the entire album, including the piece being offered for free today, here. Ready to download the free piece? Then navigate to this webpage, and click on the "Direct MP3 download link" link. May I offer a piece of criticism of this piece, at least, from Dvorak? I know that that's not my job, and I'm hardly qualified to be a music critic. But please indulge me for just a second. The piece is beautiful. But it is one of those in which the volume goes up and down numerous times. In fact, when you get your sound adjusted to where it's about like you like it, then the music gets soft. So soft that sometimes you think that it has ended because you can't hear it. Ideally, you'll have a remote control while listening to the piece so that you can manually adjust the volume control up and down while the piece is playing. Or, use a third party app, that I think exists, that a piece like this can be run through, and it will automatically level out the sound throughout the piece to one acceptable to you. It may not be worth it for this one piece, but Dvorak is not the only composer, by any means, who does this. You might find it useful for listening to the works of other composers. The YourClassical free classical piece today is taken from an Ondine (I think that they may be a subsidiary, or something like, that of Naxos) album, Schubert - Impromptus, D 899 - Moments Musicaux, D 780 - Six German Dances, D 820. The piece from it that is free today is Impromptu No. 4, a 7 minute, 45 second piece. It is performed by pianist Lars Vogt.
To get the free MP3 piece, go to this webpage, and click on "Direct MP3 download link." Need a little bit more information before downloading? There is a dedicated webpage for the album at the webpage for this URL. Enjoy your listen(s)! I found this piano piece to be a refreshing change from the usual classical piano pieces. Classical-music.com's new freebies are announced weekly and today they announced their newest freebie.
It is from Handel's Berenice. The piece is Allan Clayton sings 'Vedi L'ape Che Ingegnosa'. This week's free download is the aria 'Vedi L'ape Che Ingegnosa' from Handel's Berenice. The recording by Allan Clayton and Classical opera, which explores the life and work of Handel's favourite tenor John Beard, was BBC Music Magazine Disc of the Month in September. Every company offering free classical music pieces has their own, unique way of doing things. To get Classical-music.com's free MP3, you click on the red "Download Now" button on the thumbnail image of the album cover this webpage. Don't see a red button on the thumbnail image of the album cover? Then that probably means that you need to log in. If you've never set up an account, you will need to do that first. |

Direct today from Naxos Publishing is this free album, under the label SWRmusic (I don't know for sure what the business relationship is between the two companies; I suspect that Naxos is a reseller of that label's products). Interestingly, this one is not of classical music. It is Folk Songs of the World.
I was going to list all of the tracks on this album, but there are 22 of them, which was more than I could bring myself to re-type. Especially since about half of the names are in various foreign languages! Anyway, to access the webpage with that and other information, and download it (zip file, flac format!) if you so choose, find the email from Naxos that you will have received from them today. Open it, and click on the orange-ish button, "Download this Month's Free Album." You don't get Naxos' newsletter? Well, I think that some people have been able to get the current month's freebie by signing up for their newsletter while the current month's offer was still good. Probably the sooner that you do it, the better your chances of getting it. This webpage is as good as any other to access in order to subscribe to their newsletter. Once you've gotten to the free album webpage, a blue "download" button is very prominent. You know what to do then. ![]() I alluded to it earlier, but the download offer is good for one month, so it's "active until Nov. 18, 2016." With this offer from Naxos, remember that you get only one choice of album. Later in this month (or maybe it will be the first part of next month--it will be for November, anyway) you'll be given a choice of three albums, from which you can pick one free one. Thank you, Naxos! Oh, I haven't mentioned this before, but "downloading from a mobile device is not supported at this time." What a switch. Usually, if it's either way at all, you can download to a mobile device (Android or iOS) with these companies, but you can't download to your desktop media player!
