I'd like to take an informal poll. In your opinion, what is the overall best free online Bible site?
I like Blueletterbible dot org because you can turn on the Strong's Concordance numbers. For study, that's a great feature.

I also like Biblegateway dot com for the commentaries, in particular the Reformation Study Bible commentary (just started using this one) and the Matthew Henry commentary.

Biblestudytools dot com is nice for the parallel Bible option, but I've not used it yet.

Thanks. Your opinion means a lot to me.

Thanks for the spoiler, too. Some of the sites probably have a few miscellaneous features that BibleHub doesn't. They probably have some books that BibleHub doesn't, too.

Thanks. I had heard of the first two that you mentioned, but I'm not sure that I had the Biblestudytools. I'll definitely check it out.

I used BibleGateway dot com a lot, since one can get other language versions, and many bible translations. I prepare slides for church; we display English NIV and Spanish NVI in parallel.

Thanks.

I've heard of BibleGateway.com before, too, and think that I've used it some. I'll have to check it out again, based upon your high opinion of it.

I suppose that all who will have responded to my informal, non-scientific poll about online Bible sites have already done so.

FYI--here were the ones suggested:
- BibleHub.com
- BibleGateway.com
- BlueLetterBible.com

I've checked all of them out, again (because I've checked out all three sites before). They all look good.

Maybe the above information will be of help to one or more MobileReaders! An ideal followup poll would be to have people rate the sites, but based on the small number who participated in the above poll, there might not be enough responses.

Thanks, again, to those who participated.

Wiersbe.

Some of Warren Wiersbe's helpful commentaries are on sale again.

There are a handful of the highly-regarded "Be" series, all priced at 99 cents at Amazon at least. There are also three of Wiersbe's "Bible Study Series" on sale for 99 cents, too. The one on Jeremiah is free through tomorrow, August 22.

In lieu of listing all of the selection, I suggest that you visit GospelEbooks.net (notice that it is a ".net" and not a ".com") and scroll down until you see the post about the books. At the moment, the post is about halfway down the screen (Note: As more things get posted on the site, that post will get "pushed" down).

I'm sure that all of the above selection are available from the usual suspects, too: Christianbook.com, Google Play, Kobo, et al. If you're a real penny-pincher, ChristianBook.com frequently has the "Be Series" books on sale for 79 cents each, as ePubs, and they may be DRM-Free, if memory serves me correctly.

I have acquired all of the "Be" series, most in two formats (the one, other than Kindle's mobi, is ePub) now. I'd like to have all of Wiersbe's "Bible Study Series" in two formats, too, but they are accumulating much more slowly for me than the "Be" series did.

Another helpful poll/survey would be that of smartphone _apps_.

They are very often free, and some have a lot of great features. I am not very familiar with any of them, but I have used both Logos and Word Search Bible. I would have to place Logos first, because I can't see any Bible app surpassing it--it's that good. Word Search Bible is good. I use WordSearch Bible largely because I'm in a library-building mode right now, and for some reason Word Search Bible's prices (especially when on sale) are a little bit better.

I used the term "smartphone" apps. True, you can use the apps on smartphones, but using one for that has to have been one of Torquemada's ideas. A tablet would give you a much better experience.

Amazon and several other vendors offer the apps: however, the word that I get is that Google Play is more rigorous about making sure that the apps have no malware, etc. in them.

I have Verbum which is the Catholic version of the Logos app (it's basically the same app except the included freebies are Catholic public domain books) and I agree that the app is great on a tablet and somewhat painful on on a smaller screen.

It's become particularly useful now that I've spent a few years gathering the monthly freebies and having the occasional splurge on particularly good sales as the advantage of having interlinked books that can be mass searched has started to really kick in.

The "Weekly Free Book" (was "Free Friday") from Wordsearch Bible is a good one this week. It's the Philemon volume of the New International Commentary on the New Testament published by Eerdmans. In addition to verse-by-verse textual commentary, the volume includes several chapters addressing the relationship between slavery, Christianity, and the Bible. Chapter 2 opens thus:
Quote:
The richest country in the world, the USA, hoisted itself above all others by standing on the backs of black slaves—Africans were bought or captured and then transported under unimaginable conditions. The leitmotif of America’s founders was liberty, but that proud theme was hypocritically blind to the enslavement of its working class.
[McKnight, Scot (2018). NICNT: The Letter to Philemon (p. 30). Wordsearch. Retrieved from https://app.wordsearchbible.com.]

Note that this ebook is not an epub or Kindle book, but requires either free Wordsearch software or the web app to read.

Smith & Helwys is having a "September Sale" (shall we infer, then, that this sale occurs every year?).

The highlight of the sale, IMHO, is the 13 _Reading . . ._, First Series commentaries on the New Testament for $8.99/each. They appear to be somewhat technical, but not so technical that the serious Bible student couldn't benefit. There is one volume in the Second Series that has already been published, and it is marked down, too, but not nearly as much as the volumes in the First Series. There is also a passel of Old Testament commentaries in the sale, marked down to $8.99 each also, I think.

I think that Smyth & Helwys is in the Southern Baptist orb, based upon the fact that a good number of the authors are associated with Baylor. Maybe that will give you an idea of the ideological and/or theological standpoint of the author's [not my spelling error--it's the stupid spellchecker again] books.

Even at a price of $8.99 each, buying a set of these commentaries will set you back quite a bit of money. I'm sure that most of you will want to be discriminating about your purchases. I suggest that, in addition to your own perusal of the texts, that you will want to check ratings at such places as BestCommentaries.com, Amazon, and Goodreads.

There are also a huge number of general, popular-level books on sale.

You'll see a discount code for 50% off. However, I can't figure out what it is good for, because none of the prices changed when I tried the code, and the discount from S&M's regular prices don't seem to be 50% off anywhere that I checked.

https://www.helwys.com/sh-books-cate...urchase%20Book. You'll need to search around for the Old Testament commentaries.

There's another weird Messianic Jewish ("Jews for Jesus" style) Bible, The Orthodox Jewish Bible, available for free. This one's been around for years and has always been $5, but it's free at Amazon right now. It's not free anywhere else.

It contains both the Old and New Testaments. The biggest distinction seems to be that a bunch of Hebrew words have been transliterated rather than translated ("hashomayim" rather than "heaven", for example).

It's one of the translations available at Bible Gateway, if you want to look it over.

The Attributes of God - with study questions by Pink (1886-1952),

from Chapel Library (active contents and footnotes)
- this edition has study questions for each chapter adapted from Mt. Zion Bible Institute.

"The Attributes of God" has become a Christian classic in our time. Unlike other more devotional treatments, Pink considers the Biblical evidence for each of God’s attributes and gives in-depth insight into His character and very nature.

I FOUND this in an AMAZON Search FOR [fREE Law BOOKS]
