No, 'twas 'bout 9.30pm. If you ever need to check it, see "Brisbane" time (not Sydney or Melbourne - they're on Daylight Savings time). "Brisbane" time applies to me too.

Sitting in a depressing office with a cup of tea, being bored and waiting to go back to my depressing hotel near the highway so that I can work on my video. I did take my MacBook but forgot the power cord. So far the battery is holding though...

Sure. It's all a matter of where to put them.

Expansion cards are seen in Palm OS PDAs as disks formatted with the MS-DOS FAT file system, and they work the same way. When you run a program stored on a card, it is copied from the card into RAM and run. When you exit the program, the RAM is freed for other uses.

Palm OS looks for programs in the /Palm/Launcher directory on a card. Any program files stored there should show as icons on the PDA screen, with a little black rectangle to the left of the name indicating the program is on the card.

Data is another matter. Not all Palm programs can see data on the card, and those that can tend to be fussy about where it is. (Palm did not get the ability to use expansion cards till Palm OS 4. There are some older Palm programs that don't know cards exist.)

Palm OS only permits data in Palm Database format in RAM, and all files in RAM will have a PDB or PRC extension. The content of a Palm Database file is arbitrary. Each file has a header, and the header has information on what program owns that file and what type of tile it is that Palm OS uses to determine what databases belong to what applications. Palm programs are "resource" databases, with the program code being the resources they contain. All program files will have a PRC extension, but not all files with a PRC extension are programs. For instance, Mobipocket uses the PRC extension for Mobi ebook files on Palm devices.

Here, for instance, eReader looks in /Palm/Launcher and /Palm/Books for ebook files. MobiPocket looks in /ebooks. Plucker looks in /Palm/Launcher, /Palm/Books, and /Palm/Programs/Plucker. PalmPDF and PalmFiction (used for plain text files and RTF files) can navigate the file system on the card, so where I put things they erad is arbitrary.

As it happens, the ebook viewers are the most used applications on my Zodiac, so I keep them in RAM for fast access, but on the Zodiac, I have the RAM. On my older PDAs, pretty much everything lived on the card.

Getting really deperate. I haven't had a thing to do all afternoon, but unfortunately my colleagues are very busy, and I have to wait for them.

On the other hands, I'm the one with the keys to the car...

Thank you! To be honest, I tend to get homesick the second I step out of my appartment

I've spent enough time in hotels in my life.

I'll be getting home for the week-end, but I have to go back on Sunday night for another week. I hope that will be the last week...
