This change is forums.sufficientvelocity.com only so far. I would not be surprised if it comes to spacebattles.com, too. If it uses the same HTML class identifiers, it should work without further changes on SB.

I tried to update two quests on SV with the test version and while one worked(Nothing is Sacred) the other(Threads of Destiny) failed with the comment, 'href'.

Oh joy--they put a '...' in the page list of the feature for removing the '...'s from the threadmark list.

Hello! I noticed today that the "Overwrite Always" option does not seem to be working--I tested by altering some text and metadata and then trying to overwrite. Anyone else experiencing this?

It's working as intended for me.

Can you be more specific what you are doing and what you expected instead?

Sure. I opened a book file with the calibre editor and deleted some text, and then changed the author's name to random gibberish. Then, I ran "Overwrite Always" on that book. The author's name stayed gibberish, and the missing text was still gone. I tried it on a couple of books just to make sure. Expected outcome: author's name corrected and chapter with missing text overwritten.

Deleted chapters also did not redownload when running Overwrite always. The other update methods did redownload any missing chapters, however.

I follow those steps for myself on a random test book and it works as intended.

The only circumstance I can think of this would happen is if you're changing the OEBPS/log_page.xhtml file. Everything else should be replaced. Or maybe a full disk, but I'd expect to see errors from that.

So if I'm going to help, I'll need the exact details to try and isolate what's happening:

1. What story URL are you using?
2. What output format?
3. Are you sure you're editing the same format file?
4. Do you have FFF's 'Automatically Convert updates' feature on? Converting to what format? (It uses your Calibre Preferred output format setting.)
5. What text in what file inside the ebook did you remove?
6. Where did you change the author's name? It can be in an ebook more than one place.
7. What are you using to check for the changes? Calibre's Viewer or something else?
8. Are you sure you're looking at the same format FFF is writing?
9. Are you sure you reopened the output format after overwriting?

1. The story itself hasn't mattered--I tried multiple stories from AO3 and FF.net to the same effect.
2. Epub
3. That feature is off
4. I deleted text of the story within the <div class="userstuff module"> tag
5. I changed the author's name in the Edit Metadata window
6. I used Calibre's Edit Book and Viewer to look for changes
7. There is only one format of the book - Epub
8. Yes

I've also restarted the program, the computer, and reinstalled the most recent test version.!

This is not a big deal though--I don't use this function often, and just wanted to let you know in case it was a widespread problem

Calibre's Edit metadata dialog only changes the library database, not ebook files. Not unless you use something like Polish book to inject the metadata.

If the author entry in the library wasn't changed back, that suggests you may have the 'New only' checkbox set for Author, or the 'Update Calibre Metadata' checkbox on update off.

If you want to collect and post a debug log of such an overwrite failing to overwrite, I'll look at it.

But at this point, I just don't see it happening and cannot think of anyway it could.

EDIT: Actually, one more possible idea: Do you use the 'Background Metadata' option? That might make a difference...

And that's what it was--Background Metadata AND Overwrite together.

A change made on Feb 18 to better accommodate the literotica adapter's (border-line forbidden) collection of metadata during chapter downloads didn't cover bgmeta and overwrite together.

I also improved the error reporting for that particular section of code. Previously, it was only appearing in the console screen/debug output.

Yes that did it! Unchecking Background metadata fixed the Overwrite Always. Thank you!
