Thank you Jackie. I think I've found the details elsewhere on this site:
https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...=82265&page=23 Does anyone have experience of doing this on the Kobo Aura One and what effect it has on readability? I can't help wondering why the default would be set for frequent (1-6) page refreshes if it works perfectly well without them. Maybe others don't find it as irritating as I do - or as I think I would, as I can't actually test run it. |

I use it on an Aura One, and it works fine. My page refresh is set to "OH, THE HUMANITY!", which I assume is never (or possibly the max of 128 pages). If the ghosting is bad enough, I just double-tap in the middle of the screen and the page refreshes itself. The page refresh blink doesn't bother me anymore, but I never bothered to remove the patch because it's easy enough to refresh the page manually.

I did try the refresh patch on the 4.0 firmware and it worked but I personally found the default 6 pages to work for me so never bothered to use the patch on the 4.1 firmware. |

Not meaning to quibble but I'm not sure I'd consider overriding the page refresh setting in the conf file a patch.

It's good to know there are two ways of optimising the refresh frequency. I may be making a fuss about nothing, but my outlook is tainted by my first experience with ereaders, several years ago (2010 to be precise). I was checking some out at my local store and was horrified by the small screens, clunky navigation and weird black flashing that occurred at each page turn. I'm sure things have improved a lot since then but I think I'd still like some control over the refresh rate. The ideal sounds like me double tapping as and when I like.

hey guys, i have received my auro one yesterday. Its my first ereader! The plan is that i try to relax more in the evenings, with a good book. So, a big book noob overhere. I start with Science Fiction and started yesterday with The Martian. So far, so good. Calibre worked out of the box with the aura one selected as my main driver. Is it still importend to tweak options there? It looks likes the converted book is doing fine!
I only want to tweak out the page numbers cause its taking up so much space. And i am not interested in where I am in the book. I have found several topics that i need to edit a file on the ereader, but i cant see this file (using osx). I think i need to try it with Windows tonight! Also looking for a case and found a good topic here for that! Any tips about the footer tweak are welcome ![]() EDIT: Yes... found this post: Quote:
with the path starting with a dot, i think my osx cant see the map structure, and not showing the files inside! Last edited by Yorrnl; 11-30-2016 at 03:26 AM. |

Hello, I'm hoping a Kobo master here can help. I started reading Donna Tartt's "The Little Friend" yesterday and I noticed that the edges were cut off of the letters on the righthand side of the lines. I am not sure, but I may have also gone into the settings and turned off the headers/footers before starting. In any case, I can't get the book to show the line endings correctly. If there is a comma at the end of a line, you can't really see it, it is cut off.
I tried turing the headers footers back on and off, tried changing the margins, the font, nothing helps. And here it gets weird -- I went back to the book I finished reading before this, which was fine before, and IT showed the truncated line endings too! That one, however, I was able to fix just by fiddling with the settings, maybe I restarted the Kobo, I am not sure. Anyone know why that happens? These are KEPUBS, and I *may* have installed some kind of hack when I first got the Aura One, trying to get rid of the headers and footers. I don't really remember now. Could that be the problem? Thanks for any suggestions. |

As you "may have also gone into the settings and turned off the headers/footers", did you try going into the settings and turning them back on?
The lines being truncated happens with the full screen reading mode. Turning it off should fix it. If you really want the full screen mode, there are ways to fix it by patching the firmware or adjusting the code in the book. |

Well, *as I stated*, I tried turning the headers & footers back on and off, and nothing helped.
I got this fixed though. A redditor helped me -- first, if you turn the headers/footers back on, then you have to actually close the book by going back to the home screen and then reopen it for the change to take effect. But, better than that, the guy helped me install a patch that got it working even with the headers/footers off, which is what I really wanted. |

Page refresh - updated
I now have my Kobo Aura One and am getting along fine with it. However, when I open the config file to change the refresh frequency I find I don't have the line "numPartialUpdatePageTurns" under (Reading) - or anywhere else that I can see.
