Inexpressible Island

I... I can't really describe this island.

Robert Falcon Scott's Terra Nova Expedition (1910-1913) comprised several groups. One of these, the Northern Party, led by Victor Campbell, did not accompany Scott into the interior but wintered at Cape Adare. In 1912, that group (composed of six men in total), began the long journey homewards and began making their way to Cape Evans (via Hut Point). However, they were dropped at Evans Coves with sledging provisions for six weeks with the intention of completing geological work. After the work was done they were left with rations for about four weeks, as it was not anticipated the ship would have trouble picking them up later in February. But the Terra Nova could not reach them due to heavy pack ice. Unable to connect with their ship, the Northern Party was forced to winter in Antarctica again. In March 1912 the party excavated a small 3.7 by 2.7 metres (12 by 9*ft) ice cave in a snow drift they nicknamed "Inexpressible Island" where they spent the winter in miserable conditions, supplementing their rations by killing scarce seal and penguins for meat.

Waddingham traced the written history of Inglewood back to the original settlers of Los Angeles in 1781, one of whom was the Spanish soldier Jose Manuel Orchado Machado, "a 23-year-old muleteer from Los Alamos in Sinaloa". These settlers, she wrote, were ordered by the officials of the San Gabriel Mission "to graze their animals on the ocean side of Los Angeles in order not to infringe on Mission lands." As a result, the settlers, or pobladores, drove some of their cattle to the "lush pasture lands near Centinela Springs," and the first construction there was done by one Ygnacio Avila, who received a permit in 1822 to build a "corral and hut for his herders.

Kilmacow or Killmacow (Irish: Cill Mochua, meaning "Mochua's church" — otherwise known in Irish as Cill Mhic Bhúith) is a small village and townland in County Kilkenny, Ireland.

Situated about 7*km south of Mullinavat and 8*km north from Waterford City, Kilmacow consists of an Upper and Lower Village approximately 1*km apart. The population of each of the villages is just under 700, while that of the Kilmacow area as a whole totals over 2,000.

Truth or Consequences

A town in New Mexico that renamed itself simply so it could host the show that bore its name.

Truth or Consequences is a spa city and the county seat of Sierra County, New Mexico, United States. In 2012, the population was 6,411. It is commonly known within New Mexico as T or C.

Originally named Hot Springs, the city changed its name to "Truth or Consequences", the title of a popular NBC Radio program. In March 1950, Ralph Edwards, the host of the radio quiz show Truth or Consequences, announced that he would air the program on its 10th anniversary from the first town that renamed itself after the show; Hot Springs won the honor, officially changing its name on March 31, 1950 (the program broadcast from there the following evening, April 1st).

Saint-Louis-du-Ha! Ha!

The only town name with two exclamation points. (There is a Baie des Ha! Ha! in Saguenay, Quebec but it is not an incorporated municipality.) Like Wawa, Ontario (which natively means "goose"), Saint-Louis-du-Ha! Ha! is a remote point in an otherwise-populous province, located directly on the Trans-Canada Highway but nowhere near anything.
